City College Kangaroo Scribe Argues For Prez Biden Student Loan Forgiveness

University perspective on an issue that impacts local scholars far more than old school skeptics is critical inasmuch as we're curious if the NEXTGEN is willing to accept political hype.

Whilst it's doubtful that the Prez will be able to sell this promise, here's a peek at UMKC students holding out hope . . . Checkit:

Debt forgiveness: The bigger the better

In contemporary America, students take out crippling student loans with the assumption that the prospects afforded by college will solve any future financial woes. That line of thinking, spoon-fed to all kids one way or another, has proven to not match reality.

Egregious excess amounts of student loan debt SHOULD be forgiven.
This should include a retroactive component.
Students/parents that took out alternative debt or paid out of pocket should receive similar benefits.
A series of calculations should be determined, applying either a blended value or a best-case among them.
    The calculations should include means-testing.

P.S. DON'T FUCKING ASK ME TO HELP FUND THIS.
Taxpayers have no role in cleaning up this mess.
College endowments, bloated college staffing and outlandish tuition levels (and their growth rates) can provide all necessary funding.

PLUS making colleges pay for this will force them to re-imagine their own cost structures, and solve this problem going forward.
Part of that solution is to make them exclusively fund student loans. Require them to do it, but also let them cut their own deals on interest rates and repayment terms.

Get the government (ie taxpayers) out of the student loan equation.

  3. Well funny thing. The liberals out there don't know that someone has to pay for this. We are now paying for someone else's abortion and he wants up to pay for someone else's education on top of the high education tax we already pay. The ignorance in this country is unbelievable. Liberals really think this crap that Biden, Pelosi, and AOC put out there are really free that's how stupid they are. Throwing money back at Iran and China are next and more jobs have just been cut due to this fake idiot that stole his way into the white house. Shows the democrats are nothing more than terrorists in this country and most people are too stupid to see that.

  4. Progressives of the past understood the difficult (impossible) task of equalizing upward and, instead, did so downward in Harrison Bergeron fashion. Sadly, the intellect of the modern progressive has devolved to a point where the only way to prove this truth is to bankrupt the country in it as attempt. And, oddly enough, that will fulfill the truth by equalizing our standard of living at subsistence levels.

It is very obvious that these people saying "Just eliminate the Student Loan debt" have never taken any basic financial classes in high school or college. There are requirements (rules) that when a debt is written off then there must be an equal place on the ledger to account of the change, called a loss, as well. The only way I can see this happening is to move the debt from a loan to being income. The amount of the debt reduction would have to be passed to the "student" as income through a 1099-G being created. That means if you write off $50,000 debt you create the "student" having $50,000 of income and taxes would be due. I can't see any other equitable way to hold harmless the American taxpayer. Maybe you should have actually gone to class and lived in a lower class apartment and driven an older car or a bike and not gone on lavish spring breaks and cooked your own meals rather than eat out when you were "in college". That is how I managed my student debt and I am not going to pay for yours.

++++++++++++ all of the above! These Bernie followers are the most unintelligent people when it comes to managing money. They want it all for free because Bernie says so. Well Bernie is a millionaire and has never had a job outside of government....how did that happen? If you want to be "WOKE" then wake up!

  7. Make the public universities reimburse the students for the student loan debt.

The Administrators and Professors made millions in salaries, and outlandish pension plans from these student loans. Make them pay back the money.

  9. Taxpayers bear NO responsibility in this. We already feed and provide services to thousands and thousands of children because their parents are incapable of doing so. Why are we now to be further tasked/taxed with paying off their college debt? Because our government thinks we're suckers and that this is a good use of our money. I've already paid my kid's college and they came out with no student debt. Was it easy? Not really, but we did it. I'm not inclined to pay for someone else's kid because, once again, those parents can't or won't do their jobs. I'm with 6:38, don't ask me to fund this crap.

  10. Dont barrow what you can not repay. You got conned by the colleges not the taxpayer.

  11. I thought the whole reason for going to college is that the professors would make an individual smarter and better than everyone else, make a lot of money and thus $50,000 in student loan debt was worth the investment.

Sounds like the college professors scammed their students !

  12. DEB'S FORGIVENESS: THE BIGGER THE BETTER

When UMKC scribe Brenden Hill got dumped by his girlfriend (Deb), she used the "it's me not you" excuse, but everyone knew she was moving on to bigger and better things!

  13. Yes, I would be in favor of this too if I worked for a organization of higher learning. It really benefits all the colleges and universities, but I think that these institutions have some reform and cleaning up to do. Bad habits die hard, and rewarding the universities and colleges isn't going to help to reform the hiring, employment, and marketing practices and abuses. Going forward, I would also want to see these recipients of this money (the institutions) have some skin in the game, like a 20% hold back of funds for bad debt, to be paid when the debt is paid. We cannot keep going down the path we have been taking.

Is the Federal Government going to forgive my $100,000 loan to start my own plumbing business?

Is the Federal Government going to forgive my $50,000 loan to buy equipment for my restaurant?

No, no and no and the Fed Government should not forgive some whiny ass college student, who as the Universities say, invested $50,000 in their future career.

  16. If someone puts loan papers in front of you to sign them - you should expect to pay it all back as agreed. Unless your very badly hurt or gravely ill and can't.

An agreement is an agreement. Bet they want a stimulas check in addition to their loans being forgiven.

If you spent $35,000 on a loan to learn basket weaving at KU in hopes of meeting a guy who is a medical student - you pay back that loan gurl!

  18. Those that didn’t go to college deserve $100k.

Those who graduated from 1980 to present all deserve $50k. Even if they paid it back they deserve it with interest.

Everyone alive deserves an extra $76k. The dead deserve $45k. Aborted babies deserve $10 million.
