TKC MUST READ!!! KANSAS CITY MONARCHS MINOR LEAGUE REBIRTH ALREADY CONFRONTS SKEPTICISM!!!

Today local media did nothing but regurgitate presser copy and talking points regarding a Kansas City, Kansas minor league team transition.

However, digging a bit deeper into social media reaction we notice a bevy of pertinent questions about the branding deal.

Shared by one of the smartest people in the Kansas City arts & social media scene, this question has garnered traction and captures the crux of the issue PERFECTLY . . .

"I can see where the museum stands to gain from the merchandising, but I think it comes at a high cost. Why dilute the legacy of a storied franchise with a poorly-run minor league team on the other side of the state line?"

Again, its worth noting that the team was evicted from the CommunityAmerica Ballpark near the Legends in 2019.

Moreover, it's unclear if the name game will draw more fans for a team that has enjoyed success on the field but endured consistent management problems.

Developing . . .

  6. TKC - if it is worth noting the team was evicted from the stadium then it is worth noting also there was different ownership of the team at that time. Also it is worth noting that in sports the state line doesn't mean anything as the Royals and the Chiefs get more support from Johnson County Kansas than any other population area in the nine county area.

  7. ^^^ And yet none of that means this deal will work. Weird.

  9. 8:44, I don't think the T-Bones/Monarchs are in any minor league. They are pretty much a sandlot team.

Q: How did the Negro Leagues Museum acquire the rights to the Kansas City Monarchs service mark? The team folded in 1965. The service mark registration would have expired after that. Did the Museum do a new registration? Did the City pay for it?
