SHOCK!!! KANSAS CITY STALLS COUNCIL LADY HEATHER HALL'S BUDGET CUTS!!!

KCMO is in the midst of a budget crisis that could very well end in bankruptcy if our local leaders aren't careful.

For those who think the economy is going to bounce back soon, a glimpse at recent job numbers should dispel that notion.

America loses 140,000 jobs, first monthly loss since April

Accordingly, whilst the rest of the council focuses on social justice issues, Northland elected leader Heather Hall is busy trying to cut 12th & Oak costs without sacrificing services.

Sadly . . .

COUNCIL IS STALLING ON COUNCIL LADY HEATHER HALL'S COST CUTTING PLAN!!!

We offered some detail on her ideas last year.

But this week, the council lady is taking to social media to make the pitch to her constituents.

Check-it . . .

  1. of course they're stalling. There is not reason to save taxpayer money. Biden and the new senate can always print more.

  2. Cut the waste and duplication in the Police Department, we could save $10 Million or more!!!

  3. Start with water department. Most of the staff are just problem employees hiding out.

  4. This shouldn't surprise anyone when the council, and particularly Lucas, views their role as GIVING everyone with a wish or demand, instead of managing the budget to be able to provide the most basic of services to the city's residents.
Keeling, smiling, making grandiose announcements, appearances on cable TV, and all with GOOD GOOD news about how well Lucas and the gang at 12th and Oak are doing.
Being responsible and even honest with people and sharing the reality of a busted city budget and the necessity of setting serious priorities is, of course, bad news, which is likely to bruise the chirpy celebrity culture of KCMO government.
Maybe the city manager needs to step up and help the taxpaying public what they're actually confronted with.
National issues and the pandemic can provide a distraction from the reality of the mess at city hall only so long.

  5. Hope this lady runs for Mayor.

  6. I don't think charging for trash and leaf pickup is good budget policy, since that is what the earnings tax is for.

  7. If you want the Fraternal Order of Police running the City, vote for Hall!!!!

And by the way, all the cops will be living in Grain Valley or Olathe!!!

  8. ^^^Do you suppose that's because they know something about Kansas City that you refuse to think about?

  9. White people pay for the budget. Why let black people decide how the money is spent?

  10. Wait until the airport bills start coming due.

  11. "First Monthly Job Loss since April"? I don't think so!

The Trump Admnistration's misleading tactic of touting anuone retirning to a job they were furloughred from due to COVID as "NEW JOB CREATION" has distorted the Employment number beyound any connection to reality.

Look around at all the Business closures in this Economy, and ask yourself how the job numbers could possibly hve increased.

  12. In March, Shields -- who actually understands government funding and the impact that COVID was going to have -- wanted to FREEZE this year's budget at last year's. Hall did not support that.

Shields has supported cutting the wasteful KCPD budget to force the PD to combine non-officer services like IT & HR & insurance. Hall acts like suggesting that the bloated KCPD budget -- with more fat than a herd of hippos! -- be slightly trimmed is a demand for instituting The Purge every day of the year!

Her resolutions actually create no new source of funding. One of her suggestions would require an election to raise fees that cannot be held before March. Waiting a week has no impact.

  13. What is bloated is Kansas City having an election board and a health department those are county functions. Consolidate those functions.

  14. 10:55 and yet companies all over Johnson county are hiring. Outside of Kansas City their are lots of jobs available. STFU you don't know what you're talking about.

  15. McKnelly for Senate 2025. We win twice - he's out of KC and Hawley wins!

  16. She would make a good mayor!

  17. "Her resolutions actually create no new source of funding." What new sources of funding KCMO could there be? They've already hiked the property tax to unconscionable levels and are trying to find ways to apply the earnings tax to people who did not perform services in the city. Airport usage is way down and likely to stay that way. Biden funneling taxpayer money to bail out Democrat run cities is the best that KCMO can hope for.

  18. Make Heather mayor. Quinton can be her errand boy.

  19. No voices of reason allowe in the clowncil chambers at KCMO.

  20. As long as white jobs are cut, it's okay.

  21. The ideas are pie in the sky ideas, unfortunately.

Trash - The "savings" is due to lack of capital investment in the trash program. The city ceased contracting trash and now has the capital expenses of trash trucks. The short term savings was due to the poorly managed contracts with the contractors.

Audit - Audits occur continually via the audit department. Nothing new to see here. The "wasted" space is space no one wants. No sane person would buy or lease space from the worst landlord in KCMO, KCMO...

Sell the land to what buyers? The properties are abandoned properties. If the properties were of value the properties would not be abandoned...

Energy efficiency is a misnomer. Yes the city could save money with 2/3 less street lights but the city has promoted street lights as a key component of a safe and secure city for decades. The street lights are contracted out to the private sector so the options are few and far between until the contracts go to bid. Again, saving on street lights require fewer streets lights.

The cable is for the entire building.

And now for the reality check. KCMO is a strong city manager form of government. The city council approves the budget and the city manager is responsible for the day to day operations of the city. As noted over and over again, an across the board decrease is in order.

  22. Hate to burst your bubble... but the city needs to move to trash bins and cease the trash bags. The cost to implement the improvement is some $10-20 million.
