Four schools in the Shawnee Mission School District will have to change their mascots. Board members voted 7-0 Monday to change the district's non-discrimination policy.

ReplyDeleteShouldn't the whole district change their name? Named after the catholic mission to the Shawnee tribe, sounds very "unwoke". Heck, what about using the Shawnee name at all? What's the difference between the word "indian" and the proper name "Shawnee"? Isn't the state named after the Kansa tribe of indians? That definitely needs to change too.

ReplyDeleteThe Mascot name is a minor item. Why not concentrate on the wayward path of the kids that go to Shawnee Mission North? Many are confused and mislead into very unproductive lives. One past student, "Kim", promptly made a porn video with 2 men that was shown at many parties around the area, then she slept with countless guys trying to win "approval" from men. A hooker makes money - she made nothing, and probably could have picked up some nasty STD's along the way. A heavy drinker, she never went to college and was destined to be passed around from man to man who "wanted a shot at her". Lets put dignity and meaning into the kids and stop wasting out time on mascot bickering.

ReplyDelete7:29 no way was the shawnee mission a catholic mission. it is a mission to the indians in the 19th century when kansas is not "kansas" but instead is "indian territory" and the mission was by the permission of the united states government. so it would be during polk or buchanan or pierce administration, I believe. you are thinking of catholic missionaries sponsored jesuits like the french or spanish, another time, another place, anotehr era. this is full on protestant missionaries baby. reverend Johnson the county's namesake was a slaveholding methodist or something like that
