Kansas City Star Apology Aftermath

One week later a newspaper publicity stunt has been all but forgotten.

Quite a few African-American leaders didn't accept the apology.

Whilst progressives used the opportunity to pat themselves on the back and refocus partisan allegations of racism against their political opponents.

One example of the later . . .

"In a historic step, The Kansas City Star, one of the most influential newspapers in the Midwest, has apologized for the paper’s racist history. The paper’s top editor, Mike Fannin, admitted the Star and a sister paper had reinforced segregation, Jim Crow laws and redlining, and “robbed an entire community of opportunity, dignity, justice and recognition” with its biased coverage over many decades. We speak with Fannin and MarĂ¡ Rose Williams, a longtime education writer at the paper who led the effort to examine the newspaper’s coverage of the Black community following the police killing of George Floyd and the nationwide racial justice uprising this year. “Mainstream newspapers across the country, not just The Kansas City Star, have not done a good job of covering the Black community,” says Williams."

Take a look . . .

You decide . . .

  1. An apology can only be offered. Acceptance can't be mandated. Nevertheless, the articles in the KC Star were interesting local history.

  2. So all of you white boys that are not preoccupied with Mask Nazis screaming at you because your nose is uncovered, trying to figure out how to make a living in an economy killed by Democrats and anticipating the terror produced during the next release of Covid Fear Porn by the Democrat beta males married to the Karens following you around like a hall monitor waiting for your next microaggression, should remember to - in your spare time, self flagellate yourselves while thinking of your "privilege".

  3. On their facebook page, since then, they have covered blacks involved in sports and tragedy, except the one article about a black man who is paying to get the teen's released who stole his luxury SUV.

  9. Guess what? We white people don't accept the killing and destroying the black people have brought on our country for years. Sick of it. No white person today owes anything to a black person! NOTHING! As a matter of fact the black man owes the white man starting back when LBJ gave them our paychecks. We need civil war NOW!

  10. One just needs to look at the homicide stats for Kansas City and St. Louis. They are there, for the entire world to see with a simple search. Then it will become crystal clear to those that have an IQ above room temperature where the real problem of 'race' is.

  11. As has been said before, it requires no bravery or insight to apologize for something someone else did. Fannin takes no responsibility for anything that's happened on his watch, just stuff other guys did a hundred years ago. Wow, very gutsy...everyone he is pointing the finger at died in 1990. This is why the "apology" rings hollow and no one has paid attention to it. I did get a laugh though at the quote where they called the Star "one of the most influential papers in the midwest," um...how many candidates they endorsed won again?

  12. Would you make the same claim about reparations for Japanese internees? And before you respond, remember St. Ronald signed the legislation for those reparations.

    1. Except the Japanese formed functional communities and thrived in a country where they were brutally discriminated against, without demanding cradle to grave welfare for fifty years. They also didn’t manage to wreck their communities and slaughter each other while blaming whitey.

  13. Ah. There's always an "except for" isn't there? Many blacks formed communities that were functional and thriving in a country where they were brutally discriminated against. Ever hear of Greenwood, the Tulsa district destroyed in a riot in 1921? And that's just one of many such examples. Any time blacks got to be too successful, they had to be put in their place. "Except for" indeed.

And I could go into housing and lending discrimination in the GI Bill and FHA programs, but that would be lost on you, I'm sure.

Oh, and in the unlikely event you're interested, far more whites rely on welfare than blacks.

    1. Yes, there us an 'except for.' It’s called actually exploring details instead of trite woke-snark. Have you noticed by the way that it's no longer 1921, or 1963? I feel I have to ask, because the point remains.

A logical one. Why, after being by far the most subsidized group on the planet for fifty years--subsidies put in place to address inequity, abuse, and slavery, have blacks deteriorated so badly in the country that affords them by far the most opportunity in the world? How many trillions of dollars in welfare, preferential hiring, and other programs with the only purpose of helping them succeed?

And please don't dodge the question, which is complex. You know very well blacks consume, and consume, and consume, welfare at a much higher per capita rate. With what results? They have repaid this subsidy by generating crime at a shockingly disproportionate rate. Other groups--all with their own history of oppression--have found a way to thrive.

It would help your feeble case to address truth instead of circulation of the same tired old victimhood narrative.

I know this is your narrative, but I also know many middle and upper class blacks who would not fit your narrative. And I know the effects of housing and lending discrimination that happened in the 1930s through the 1970s and beyond are still having an impact.

And I know you'll stick to your narrative, and I know I won't be wasting any more time on a fool's errand.

    1. Well, surrender accepted, as it must be. Once again we see when your myth meets truth and fact you run away.

That's not narrative. Blacks do consume welfare and produce crime at disproportionate rates. Verifiable easily, as the government keeps track of such things.

It could be that the identity of victimhood itself is partially to blame. As the successful black people you describe would probably agree with. Thank goodness for a new generation of real black leadership--many of whom are Republicans recently elected--who are pushing back against your narrative.
