Kansas City Newsies Fight For Overland Park Po-Po Dox After Teen Shot Dead

This local journalism struggle is captivating if only because the newspaper once launched these legal battles and now TV stations are picking up the slack.

Here's a glimpse at the freedom of information fight . . .

41 Action News sues Overland Park for records related to Albers shooting

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - An Overland Park police officer fatally shot a 17-year-old boy in 2018. 41 Action News is now suing the city to get a key report about the incident. The lawsuit was filed Tuesday on the eve of the three-year anniversary of John Albers' death.

  1. The little fucker deserved to be capped. He charged police with a motor vehicle. It is not the job of the po po to parent your children people. If you can't handle them then keep your legs together!

  2. Geeezit leave this stupid story alone. If the cops had let him drive away and he ran over a lady and her dog we be all upset the cops didn't stop him.

  4. Once again, as is the case of so many stories like this:
    Where, exactly, were the parents?
How did this kid whose parents claim was having a mental collapse, get the keys to the vehicle that he tried to run down the police with?
And a former comment is right. If the cops had let him drive away and he killed an innocent person with the vehicle, the public wold have been all over the PD for letting it happen.
These folks haven't taken responsibility for either themselves or their son.
    Sad.

  5. First two comments like citizens killed by armed government agents without due process

I guess they also like the government saying bad things about the dead citizen after he isn’t around to defend himself.

And the boot licking badge humping idiot comments also like the government hiding information from citizens and journalists about the slaying of this citizen

Oh, and don’t forget the big cash payout to the cop who stayed the citizen.

  6. ^^Try and run over a cop and see if it gets you a lollipop or shot. We'll wait for you to report back.

  9. I cant imagine what that kid's parents have gone through, and sadly, access to the report won't make them feel better. Every round that killed the teen passed through a side window, none through the rear glass, not exactly an imminent threat to the officer's life... but they've already settled their suit, and no matter what the report says, it wont help with the guilt I'm sure they feel for what they didn't do to help their child avoid ending up in that situation.

  10. ...and KSHB is simply being ghoulish in the matter. The situation has long passed, as has the "no-charge" decision and the settlement of the parent's lawsuit. At this point, their actions are nothing but exploitive with little to no journalistic value, simply chasing a few eyeballs or clicks.

  11. Can you imagine the outrage if the boy were black? It would have been a big moneymaker for BLM, NAACP, Kaepernick and Al Sharpton. That's how they fill their bank accounts -- off the blood of others.
