KC area distilleries fight back after being slapped with $14,000 bill for making hand sanitizer

Kansas City area distilleries, who were already struggling because of the pandemic, got a shock over the holiday. That's when they learned they were going to be slapped with a $14,00 bill from the federal government for making hand sanitizer.

    That's the stuff of unelected bureaucrats, which Don was trying to dismantle through historic deregulation. Expect a LOT more of that with the new administration.

    If you have a problem with the distillery charges, but you voted for Biden, maybe you should sit this one out.

    Later Thursday, however, the Department of Health and Human Services appeared to have struck down the FDA fees. “Small businesses who stepped up to fight COVID-19 should be applauded by their government, not taxed for doing so," HHS chief of staff Brian Harrison said in a statement posted on Twitter.

    “I’m pleased to announce we have directed FDA to cease enforcement of these arbitrary, surprise user fees," he said. "Happy New Year, distilleries, and cheers to you for helping keep us safe!”
