TKC MUST SEE!!! COUNCIL DUDE ERIC BUNCH PRETENDS TO PUSH KANSAS CITY POLICE LOCAL CONTROL!!!

The adventures of a Kansas City council dude are "complex" and involve Eric Bunch bouncing around on a variety of social justice issues.

For instance, the council dude was a champion of the 2020 tent city protest outside of city hall but then it got cold, the demonstration faded and the mom who protesters were advocating for confronted her own domestic drama issues . . . Accordingly, Councilman Bunch quickly clammed up about the merits of the demonstration.

However, in his latest foible, the councilman champions his consistent inconsistency on the topic of police local control.

Remember during Summer protests, Mayor Q and the council quickly signed on to demands from Black Lives Matter protesters and pushed a local referendum on so-called "local control" of Kansas City police.

And then, as election time approached, the council dude quickly backed off. Here is his description of participation from the electorate: "Holding a purely symbolic local election is costly and confusing."

To be fair, he might be correct but his "solution" is even more meaningless and unlikely.

And so we examine a bit of political chest thumping from this 4th District white dude who seems far more interested in social justice than quickly decaying infrastructure in Midtown or rising crime plaguing Downtown, Westport, Brookside and nearly every neighborhood within his district.

This week Councilman Bunch celebrated a non-biding action item on a crowded list for hapless lobbyists working on behalf of city hall . . .

"This is the first time that I am aware that KCMO Council has committed to local control of our police department. Proud to have played a part in this crucial first step."

To wit . . .

IF THERE IS ANY PROGRESS ON KCPD LOCAL CONTROL AMONG THE GOP SUPER MAJORITY IN JEFF CITY, TKC WILL DRESS UP LIKE SANTA AND LET COUNCILMAN BUNCH SIT ON MY LAP AND SHARE HIS CHRISTMAS WISH LIST!!!

Sadly, this isn't going to happen.

Reality . . .

Council dude Bunch sold out Black Lives Matter and now he's offering the illusion of progress because he thinks activist voters are stupid.

Again, he may be correct.

The only thing we know for sure is that the council "legislative priority" for KCPD local control will be be quickly placed in the circular file and dismissed without consideration. This shift in responsibility then places blame on Missouri Republicans rather than a focus on KCMO politicos keeping their grandiose promises casually offered to angry mobs and then quickly ignored.

And so, for better and worse, people who want a REAL discussion of Kansas City police local control probably shouldn't rely on Mayor or Council for consistency.

You decide . . .

  3. The KCPD should drop Bunch off at around the 3500 block of College Avenue at 2:30am some morning and let him learn all about actual policing.
What a menagerie this council is!
    Especially without any adult leadership.
    Sad.

  5. How about the City, that is, the Citizens of Kansas City do not want local control of the Police Department. Damn the Council. They are so misguided... on everything.

  9. That lunatic clowncil couldn't manage a flea circus. They shouls ALL be replaced and not with moronic radicals with a stupid social justice agenda but one that recognizes there are MANY races of people here and we need to do what helps the entire city and not just throw money at incorrigible urban core

  10. But...but... activist voters are stupid...

  11. Bunch wants to be anything to get reelected. That's why he flips around. Plus, he isn't very smart, which makes his efforts so obvious. He should just go back to screwing up the streets with his bike boy cult.

  14. 531, Bunch fits right in. If the guy is serious at all about rising in the political arena, he needs to invest in some good suits. He ALWAYS looks like an unmade bed.

  15. be carefull what you wish for it was the most corrupt police dept when the city had control of it so can you all imagine what corruption the city council will bring to the city kc is better off leaving it alone

  16. You can just look at him and know he's clueless. Has no idea why local control would be the worst thing for KC since, well, since the current city clowncil (with a couple of exceptions) including the mayor, were elected. He should just get on his bike and ride away...far, far away.
