Cleveland Indians Name Change Coming Soon: Will Kansas City Chiefs Endure?!?!

The "Indians" were always a sketchy organization and Chief Wahoo was probably one of the most overtly racist mascots in American history.

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs and their fans still argue their moniker is based on tribute and respect for native culture as the team struggles to break with some of their questionable traditions like the "Arrowhead chop" and fans adorning themselves in faux native headdress.

More importantly: The Indians suck and the Chiefs are now a championship caliber team working to create a dynasty. Branding at the elite level of pro-sports is a VERY BIG DEAL worth hundreds of millions to both merchants and the NFL. Decisions about mascots aren't just about politics, they have serious economic implications.

Accordingly, here's a glimpse at the nation and the sports world continuing to "evolve" amid a cultural shift . . .

Cleveland Indians to change nickname, per report

Cleveland's Major League Baseball team has decided to change its nickname, moving away from the moniker it has employed for more than 100 years and that is considered insensitive to indigenous peoples, according to David Waldstein and Michael S. Schmidt of the New York Times .

  4. The article mentions Atlanta braves considering a name change. “Brave” is not offensive is it? It is like general or leader or warrior. Or “chief”

I definitely get the point that “Indian” isn’t a nice name any more. And chief wahoo - certifiably cringe-inducing! But are we forgetting the name of the state? Why was it called that? Because of all the Indians living in the wilderness of Indiana. Abraham Lincoln grandfather was killed by an Indian while he was plowing a field, in Indiana. Are we supposed to write away from our white peoples history books the fact that this land used to be possessed by Indians? How is it honoring them to forget about them?

  5. The Cleveland Stable Geniuses - in six months nobody will give a shit about that and in a year they'll have to think a while to remember where it came from.

  6. Indian isn't a nice name now ? Funny it was the American Indian Movement that they choose to represent us . They being us "SKINS". No Indian I know or am related to has ever went by Native. That's dreamt up shit for attention not unlike what BLM or ANTIFA members might bring up. You know if you walk in Black town they call each other nigger or nigga every other word and have no problem as well. Well Apply that to us "Natives". Know when you are sold a scam by a select few of "US". Maybe your elected Lesbian communist Squaw doesn't like it, so everyone else has to follow P C lies. BTW- Only activist welfare reds care if BRAVE is used or not.

  10. If the "Chiefs" are forced to change their name think about the following changes that need to be made: Chief petty officer, chief of police, CEO, CFO......It is not an Indian thing it is a position thing. Only the logo makes it an Indian thing.

  11. So what "position" should the logo be changed to so it won't offend @6:59?

  14. teams are soaking tax payers. Stadiums are really built as internment camps. Players are over paid babies with token degrees and no real education, then most go on support socialist agendas. KC and visting players give tax earning tax exemption. Teams are nothing but tax laundry scheme-for uber rich owners. Enjoying watching them eat themselves.
