Longtime Avenue grocery operation closes, will be replaced by international grocer
Michael Bushnell Publisher After an almost 48-year history on Independence Avenue, Snyder's Supermarket will be closing on New Year's Eve. It will be replaced by a new locally owned grocery store with an international flair. The space has a long history of supplying Northeast residents with groceries.
By international they mean Somali, they’re food stinks to high heaven.

Snyders was terribly mismanaged. Lots of expired product. They made their money selling alcohol to the bums. I'm excited for the Mexicans to take over and help clean up Independence Ave.

ReplyDeleteSnyder's was doomed by the profusion of Mexican groceries on Independence Avenue, each with fresher vegetables and better meats than Snyder's has lately had on hand. Not that long ago, Snyder's was one of the few groceries left where you could buy meat cut from "hanging beef," i.e. not pre-frozen. It has declined since then. RIP, 48 years was a good run.
