Redux: Kansas City Community Leaders Warn NBA Of Local Discord With Police

Another glimpse at this divisive but effective rhetorical tactic that is predicated on a very obvious truth: Relations betwixt community & law enforcement are the worst we've seen in years.

Here's the word . . .

Civil rights groups caution NBA against choosing KC as temporary Raptors home

Three civil rights groups in Kansas City are cautioning the NBA against considering KC as a temporary home for the Toronto Raptors for the upcoming season.

Comments

  1. Don't think the rational that civil rights groups are using really directly address the police problem. Not sure how opposing the NBA's decision to move a team here is going to have any real impact on the police actions toward BLM. They really need to clarify that if they expect support.

  2. NBA doesn't need to be in Kansas City. Move on.

  3. The NBA should also be advised that Kansas City blacks kill each other at a higher rate than average. With the tacit support of the black community and black community groups and the KC Star.

  4. Fuck the NBA and especially, fuck the "Community".

Sad to see so many get so upset over a simple letter.

  6. Here's the rule: Never turn away money. Anybody who says otherwise is lying or working for the interests of someone else.

    You're right about one thing.
    It is a SIMPLE letter.
    From irresponsible simpletons.
Most people in "the community" have quit listening to these has-beens long ago, especially the younger folks.
What a sad attempt at making believe they're relevant.

Just by taking the time to write the letter, true or not, should be enough of a "Red Flag" that the NBA will pass on KC.

  8. If these civil rights groups were smart they should be calling for economic boycotts throughout the economy. If there is one thing white folks understand and that is placing a dollar cost on their practices and support of racism. Hit them where it hurts. Hey how about boycotting the NBA?

  9. The civil rights leaders should give the NBA some ideas for cities where they like the police. Cricket-cricket-cricket.

  10. Over and over we read that we need jobs, but the so called leaders don't actually want those jobs to come because it would then embolden the sheep that they lead. Same reason they don't want to recognize any positive numbers that come out of Washington to give Trump any credit.

  11. When sports were civilized, I would have welcomed this opportunity for KC. Too bad the NBA is synonymous with thuggery, social justice theater, and partisan politics. Wouldn't pay a dime to see Lebron James, and don't think taxpayers should be on the hooks for security, maintenance, inevitable damages, car break-ins, etc.

  12. Gwen has marginalized herself to such a point she has become irrelevant. Every Kansas City insider has considered her nothing more than a grifter over the many years she has been around. Like some other leaders they use race as way to fund their thieving. It’s time to look at where funding should be spent and it is not to organizations who help tear Kansas City to the ground. Gwen worked hard to educate and raise awareness, and to be honest she was successful. When she works against the workers in Kansas City and our ability to earn a fair salary at these events she went way too far. She hurt our community and anyone who works with her should pay the price for trying to take money out of our family’s pockets. Our city should turn our backs on these crazies forever.

Gwen is a thief. Gwen is a fake. Gwen is no better than a circus fortune teller, nothing more than a self serving bitch.

  13. Gwen is just pissed because they cut her off the free city money train and the city found a better option to spend the money she shouldn’t have been getting anyway. Petty crybaby bullshit is what it is.

  14. 7:57 has a point -don't turn down money.

nba needs to realize something about k.c. though - past experiences dictate future endeavours.

k.c. can't, won't, isn't able, doesn't care to, etc............. to embrace change . we have no reasons to.

THE WRATH OF THE AWAKENED SAXON
    by Rudyard Kipling

It was not part of their blood,
It came to them very late,
With long arrears to make good,
When the Saxon began to hate.

    They were not easily moved,
They were icy -- willing to wait
Till every count should be proved,
Ere the Saxon began to hate.

Their voices were even and low.
Their eyes were level and straight.
There was neither sign nor show
When the Saxon began to hate.

It was not preached to the crowd.
It was not taught by the state.
    No man spoke it aloud
When the Saxon began to hate.

    It was not suddently bred.
    It will not swiftly abate.
    Through the chilled years ahead,
When Time shall count from the date
That the Saxon began to hate.

Rev. Dr. Rodney Williams, NAACP-KC, and Rev. Dr. Vernon Howard, SCLC-GKC:

What were have here is not systemic racism by police but systemic arrest avoidance by thugs. Yes that includes that fat pregnant ho who interfered with an arrest. If you comply you'll stay alive. If you throw a fit your in deep shit. Savee??
