As coronavirus worsens in Kansas City and around the world, an urban neighborhood is facing a hasty decision by local organizations that has neighborhood leaders crying foul.

NORTHEAST KANSAS CITY OPPOSITION BUILDS AGAINST HOMELESS TENT CITY!!!

There's a lot to unpack in this story but today this community newspaper did an excellent job of providing the essential deets . . . Check-it:

Northeast News: Northeast residents push back on Chouteau tent camp

Deets:

"The Downtown Council, an organization of downtown business and property owners, is looking to the City and Jackson County to fund a proposal to establish a camp for unhoused people on the site of the former Chouteau Courts housing project, which was demolished earlier this year, northwest of Independence Avenue and the Paseo. The Downtown Council is estimating $250,000 would build out the physical camp with 25 tents and two staff on-site around the clock for the full proposed timeline of the project, according to Jared Campbell, CID Resident Engagement Project Manager for the Downtown Council. Additional funding would help provide better resources on-site, including for extreme cold weather conditions."

Money line . . .

Residents of the Northeast neighborhoods, and nearby Columbus Park, have a laundry list of concerns. At the top of that list: Nobody asked them.

  5. No wonder everyone is selling in N E I kinda wondered about that. This is going to tank property values there and they don't have that much equity to begin with. Did they really think the city was going to include them in the decision? Come on man. What I would like to know is...do they have a place to wash their hands, or should this be named COVID City?

  6. Why don’t they use the former camp grounds at city hall? It’s already proven to have worked before. And they could have Stacey Shaw and the crazy bitch kJ there with their bullhorns to wake them up every morning!

  7. Move them in with Lickass. It's his fault.

  8. I think they should set up this camp closer to the railyards, maybe on some heavily polluted site. Of course, that location would be so unpleasant that many of the homeless would leave this City, but we would simply have to endure that hardship and muddle through somehow.

  9. Just call KCFD. If the weather is freezing or below, the chickenshit firemen will gladly hose down the homeless people and all their possessions. Then they will lie and deny they did it.

  10. Of course the "Northeast Neighborhood" all lies EAST of the Paseo, so that area is properly part of the City Market.

  11. Wonder if Dr. Un-Sexy Rexy Archer and his Health Department staff will pour bleach on the homeless people's food to prevent COVID-19 like they did last Thanksgiving when Christians were trying to feed the homeless.

  12. West bound trains. Easy. I don't think the yard cops beat you any more.

  13. Awww how ethical is that they are giving them an address so they can get an ID,my ass its a way to get them to register to vote as well.

  14. So, we tore down the housing project so we could build a tent city for bums? Dumbocrats sure know how to revitalize an area!

  15. They should call Stacy Shaw. She has and abundance of unused tents and I'm sure that she will be glad to help.
