Full disclosure: For years we've maintained that Eric Bowers is the BEST working photog in Kansas City. He remains our fave!!!
Sadly, tonight Mr. Bowers earned a bit of negative publicity by way of legal eagle complaints.
Of course everyone is entitled to their say and day in court but it seems like this piece left out a lot about copyright law. There wasn't one mention of FAIR USE which is how our blog community and most internets pundits stay above the fray in order to provide news and education for the public trust.
Also . . . The point here is that private biz trying to make a buck could have easily cleared a photo to use in their advertising . . . Which is a different form of communication than commentary, news or instruction.
Anyhoo . . . Because a great many lawyers and small biz people read this blog . . . The debate is worth a peek tonight . . .
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - There are thousands of beautiful photos on the web, but be careful if you use them without permission. It could cost you thousands. "It was our understanding that it was okay to share those images because they did not have a copyright stamp," said Megan Voepel of Voepel Property Management.
