TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY COVID-19 BUDGET CRISIS WILL FORCE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION CUTBACKS!!!

With bankruptcy looming as a serious possibility in the very near future, Kansas City is now forced to reevaluate costly public transit initiatives.

To wit . . .

INSIDERS WARN AGAINST KCATA ROUTE CUTBACKS AND AS THE PANDEMIC HAS SEVERELY IMPACTED RIDERSHIP!!!

Here's the word . . .

"There have already been some adjustments but the upcoming cutbacks are going to be worse and they'll disproportionately impact poor people and minorities. However, it just doesn't make sense for KC to keep running empty buses and streetcars. Bigger adjustments have to be made . . ."

Remember, at the outset of the pandemic free bus rides seemed like a bold and progressive effort that would help locals navigate coronavirus with help from city hall. Now, the continued economic devastation of the virus has lessened the demand for public transit given that so many people without jobs simply don't have anywhere to go.

Both the streetcar and the bus have suffered significant ridership declines and until this town lifts pandemic restrictions, the precipitous drop in riders isn't likely to change anytime soon.

And so . . .

In the foreseeable future, the vision for public transit as the prime mover of KCMO has simply vanished. Millennial denizens are now buying "COVID CARS"  and seem to want to continue social distancing despite hope of a vaccine.

And so, despite transit future hype . . . The tragic reality is that the pandemic has killed a great many future KCMO transit plans.

Developing . . .

    1. DO NOT CUT THE BUS!

It is a lifeline for people who cannot afford cars across the city. Even if there are fewer people using it, frequent stops and buses are essential to their survival. It would be a mistake for Kc to think the pandemic was going to last forever. We also need to plan for when things open up again.

  3. Glad you finally picked up on this.

Streetcar ridership has been down as low as 60% since last year. But people don't understand the bus is doing just a poorly.

Running empty buses is a waste of KC money.

If we had better management at the ATA they would have already addressed this issue. But this is KC so we let EVERYTHING get to a crisis point.

  4. Celebrate. Celebrate. Dance to the music. #BankruptcyKC The taxpayer trough is empty. I guess the hangers on will just have to go back to their home Cities and work for their money like everybody else. Good news indeed.

  5. The bus can temporarily operate on smaller buses and go door to door - creating routes daily where people need to go. Keep the main routes open and make others by appointment.... like Uber or rideshare.

  11. Mayor Lickass taking a knee with the taxless mob that day was a symbolic end of Kansas City as a solvent entity... the citizens need to re-evaluate their habit of worshiping Democrats. After all they only have two choices and one them has had plenty of time that is running out.

  17. If all the money wasted on the street car wasn't wasted there would be money for the buses to run.

See hoe Lucas operates? He promises free things to people then turns around later and takes them back after he has bankrupted the kitty. This is just the beginning of things Lucas is going ruin and put out of commission in KC.

  18. Uh, maybe, you could charge something to ride these services. Just asking for a friend.

    ReplyDelete
  19. When you provide a service for free using equipment that costs you money to operate and maintain that business model won't take very long to implode.

  22. TOP PHOTO -- BUS..TED! ON THE ROAD TO HELL

KCMO should have NEVER built the ToyTrain system. It was a vanity project from the start, after taking a junket trip to Portland and other "hip" cities. One can even make a good argument against municipal-run buses. If there's a need, allow private enterprise to fulfill the need through competition. Instead, KCMO has a blind man running the operation, along with the County Executive's son being hired for an unadvertised position. Corrupt Democrat-led KCMO is an incompetent, inefficient, high-tax, low-quality service, teetering on bankruptcy killer city!!!

Can anyone in Kansas City say they are happy with the way the city is being run? I would just like to hear what this mayor has done for the community, to make the city better, etc. Other than kneeling with the protest mob, what has he accomplished? His tenure has been a disaster so far, and I would really like for someone to demonstrate what he has done for the residents.

Hey, hey, settle down now. Once the Airport is finished and that new plan for another 18th and Vine project are taken care of, everything will be okay. This city, the clowncil and our beloved mayor are WOKE, and we will be the envy of the country.

  25. 10:53 that’s easy, absolutely nothing good, he treats the honest law abiding citizens like we have an endless bank account. Just because we have jobs doesn’t mean we aren’t suffering either, and we are suffering.

He has however created a division as wide as the Grand Canyon, he’s made bedmates with blm/antifa, he’s promised more wasted taxpayer money on freebies for the twenty something aged children, he’s encouraged racism among his people, rioting, destruction, loss of jobs and businesses and he’s created the perfect environment for the murderous blacks. In his sick libtard mind this is a perfect world.

  26. Derks is right, we are Baltimore.

Vote cleaver out so we can start to straighten out this disaster in the making. Kc is trying hard to turn red and that’s the only thing that will save us.

  27. Fuck Kansas Shitty! Let it burn! Zero more of my tax dollars suckers and losers! Just wait until they cant repair critical infrastructure. That will be fun to watch and it is coming folks!

  28. Damn. I was looking forward to free bus rides.

And, if you thought the pot holes in the streets were bad last winter... just wait.

Wasting money on stupid projects while the important things the city is supposed to be taking care of fall by the wayside.

  29. Mayor 10-10-10 could gain tons of goodwill by telling “activist” Stacy to go pound sand.

The forget about the streetcar and open businesses with no strings that get jobs into the poor: Restaurants, small businesses, etc.

Tackled crime by hiring MORE Police. Invite the Fed back- they did a great job. Tell Stacy to put her energy into food banks and educating the poor on job opportunities. She is smart or she would not have a law degree. Put in efforts that can truly help large amount of folks.

KC will go bankrupt... that is a definite and not a question. Many answers to avoid this exist on this blog. Mayor 10-10-10 chooses to align with misguided protesters and alienated his support.

Lucas should resign within 7 days or face the wrath city worked who lose their jobs. Professional protesters should be hired by laid off workers and the bill sent to City Hall.

    ReplyDelete
  30. If Lucas had any leadership skills he would hang himself on the front lawn of Shitty Hall after executing the clowncil.

  31. President Trump gets the Chinese red death virus and can still run the country from his death bed.

Mayor mcdumbo shuts the city down because he’s scared he might upset his dimwit party leaders and their narrative. Mayor mcdumbo ruined kc’s economy, businesses and the taxpayers lives because he’s more worried about his image and political future, the boy is a pussy.

  32. VOTE ERIC BUNCH OUT OF CITY COUNCIL!

  33. Remove/eliminate wasteful bike lanes. Theres a savings that doesnt have to impact the bus service.

    ReplyDelete
  34. They should stop any funding of the streetcar immediately and look into purchasing all-electric buses with that money. Run smaller diesel/hybrid buses on the suburban routes and more efficient electric buses on the more used routes. Ultimately that would save a lot of money and help the air quality. I also agree to let private businesses start running more shuttles around town that are cheaper than an Uber but will be more personal transportation door to door than a bus or streetcar. Google has invested billions in its self-driving shuttle van business called "Waymo" that are already being used in test markets.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The reason few streetcar riders. K.C.MO.SCARES AWAY TOURIST. STARTING WITH THE PROTEST ORGANIZERS SHAW AND COMPANY High crime. TOURISTS will visit Missouri but not Kansas City and as many have said K.C.MO WILL NEVER RECOVER. DON'T GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY .

  36. Shut down the buses and the streetcar. Make them fucking walk in their stolen Nikes!

  37. More murals would help.

  40. Here is a radical idea. Raise the bus and train fares to cover operating costs. Radical in a city where everybody thinks they are entitled to a free ride but it seems more reasonable than just cutting service entirely.
