THE TKC SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST!!! KANSAS CITY ARTS SCENE CONFRONTS DIMINISHING RETURNS OF 'VIRTUAL EVENTS' AMID COVID-19 HARSH TIMES!!!

Just like everybody else, the Kansas City arts community is in desperate need of cash.

Artists, performers and other creatives are valiantly keeping busy and trying to push their fans toward "virtual event" platforms in order to solicit donations, digital admissions or possibly sell merch but the tactic has earned varying degrees of success.

Some smaller artists & clubs can scrape by with this strategy. However, bigger venues and events are unable to recoup BIG MONEY TICKET PRICES by "passing the digital hat" during performances.

For places like the downtown center for the performing arts, this is a big deal because city hall cash helps to build and maintain their parking garage that has now stood empty for months. And so this town's investment in the arts isn't just a "feel good" donation but a very real cash down payment that is costing this town big bucks.

As we gear up for an EPIC KCMO budget crisis, let's not forget that the arts community has been subsidized by KCMO taxpayers for years and NOW they're likely to be the first on the chopping block . . . Or at least they should be . . . Pandemic harsh times have forced KC to think deeply about priorities and funding the arts is no longer the most important consideration for this cowtown.

And all of this inspires tonight's playlist . . .

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe and fun Saturday night.

  1. Good songs. Bad situation.

Actually, I have noticed a lot of people giving to artists very generously. KC has always stepped up to help the bests artists endure their own personal struggles. Does it always work? No but there are plenty of opportunities to help.

  2. ^^^ Few people have problems with private donations.

But KC voters are committed to funding the arts, that seems to be the main point of the post.

I never got to vote on the funding for the arts center parking lot but here we are and KC is still paying for it at the same time we're cutting cops from the street.

    Think about it.

  4. Yet the people affiliated with LC art scene will vote for more Dimwits and get more of the same from their government officials.
