Rising Tide Of Kansas City Water Customers Object To Non-Payment Shutoff Delay

For our cranky late night denizens of the discourse we offer a perspective that mainstream local news is too scared to mention. Not everybody is onboard with floating Kansas City water customers until next year.

To wit and only on TKC . . .

MANY KANSAS CITY WATER CUSTOMERS DECRY THE SHUTOFF EXTENSION WHILST PAYING HIGH PRICES FOR THE SERVICE!!!

Translation: There's no such thing as "free" water. Somebody ALWAYS has to pay and we notice a great deal of anger from customers who feel like they're being forced to pick up the tab.

Look at social media proclamations of "victory" and then scroll down to see resistance . . .

Water worldview . . .

"Why should water debt be cancelled? Retired, fixed Income and I pay my bills. Have had to budget my entire life. Stop asking for handouts...my damn taxes are already too high. I understand needing some help but stop expecting a free ride in life."

Not-so-fun-fact . . .

"Didn’t know it was a NON-PROFIT. Why are the water bills so high???"

Picking up the check . . .

"I don't want to be cruel, I know there are a lot of people suffering from the @kcmo coronavirus restrictions. But by delaying shutoffs you're only passing the bill on to the rest of us who are pay every month. Why are we being forced to sustain people who don't pay their bills?"

Nevertheless, this story was mostly celebrated today and here's a roundup of the shutoff switcheroo.

Checkit:

"KC Water planned to resume shutoffs next month, but city leaders took action Thursday to prevent that from happening. "The Kansas City Council passed an ordinance to prevent water shutoffs until early next year. "People struggling to pay their KC Water bills amid the pandemic now won’t have to worry about the utility company turning off their water through Jan. 16, 2021."

KMBC: Kansas City Council passes ordinance to prevent water shutoffs until January

KCTV: The ordinance passed 12-1, with the lone "no" coming from Councilwoman Katheryn Shields.

  1. Absolutely agree with that first comment. People work hard to pay their bills and what do they get for it? Just more costs for those who don't.

Those people would be screwed if Kansas City had thousands of people without water, their prices would still go up even more. Do the math and stop whining.

  2. You think the water department did this on their own?

This was all just a pr stunt organized by mayor lucas. He is just padding his resume and trying to look like he's doing something. Nothing but misdirection and I suspect that TKC knows it given his sarcasm on this issue.

    Think about it.

  3. Shut up and pay the high water bills. You are just a bunch of hard-working losers. We have thousands and thousands of EBT recipients who skate by with no job but have endless $$$ for the latest iPhone, a new Dodge Challenger, and lots of drugs and partying. How are they supposed to pay them bills if they have to pay something as mundane as a water bill? I am tired of all of this white privilege of these losers who can afford their high water bills complaining that they are subsidizing others. Isn't that the Democrat way?

  4. If only Mexico would pay the water bills just like they did for the wall. MAGA!

  5. Quit whining. If you want 30% lower water bills...move out of KC

  6. I'm still waiting for his beautiful health care plan. All I see is him trying real hard to take away the health insurance of about 20 million people in the middle of a pandemic.

He's such a nice guy. I can see why the poor MAGATs love him so much. They hate themselves.

Where is the outrage that KC residents subsidize other area communities water costs?
From the Star: KC provides water to 30 surrounding communities.
KCMO residents water rates have gone up 88%, while the thirty other towns and villages that buy water from KCMO have only experienced a 38% increase.
Let the city wide sales tax, dedicated to the East Side, pay water bills for the needy.

  8. The best federal health plan would be no federal health plan. The feds screw up whatever they touch, usually at great cost to taxpayers. Let the states and private insurers put together programs for provision of and payment for their citizens' health care. They are much more in tune with peoples' needs than the federal government is or will ever be.
