Kansas City Real Estate Racism Reconsidered

College life analysis of this evil dead white dude is the NEXTGEN refrain for 2020 . . . Here's ANOTHER look at one of many reasons to distrust the friendly, neighborhood real estate agent.

JC Nichols and Segregation in Kansas City

This past summer, during the height of the Black Lives Matter protests, many Kansas Citians brought to attention the namesakes of certain monuments in Kansas City. One of the names mentioned quite a bit was JC Nichols.

  1. Let's boycott all black business because black Africans who sold other black Africans into slavery on the continent of Africa, were, THE GREATEST SLAVERS IN HISTORY.

  2. Not one slave gets to the African coast to be sold into slavery, if that slave is not brought there, by other Africans who then sell said slave into slavery.

    1. The demand for large scale slavery was driven by whites. It has never been practised anywhete in the world on such a horrific scale except in the Americas by Europeans. It was a moral failure of white culture to promote slavery at such a level. Why deny it? Own your own failings if you expect the same of others.

  3. After all we have been through I won't rent or sell to a liberal. They have destroyed everything. I will say this, there is only one thing worse than a white democrat and that's a black democrat. I can't believe how stupid black democrats are to fall prey to the very people that whipped, raped, and abused them. STUPID STUPID STUPID. What's even more STUPID is they believe only republicans are Klan members. Shall I name a few democrat Klansman? Will Quigg, Hillary Clinton's father, Hillary Clinton's mentors.

  4. J.C. Nichols is long dead and gone.
People like Stacy Shaw are in our faces every day.
If you want to see racism in 2020 just watch and suffer through the irresponsible and dangerous antics of what passes for leadership in the black community in KCMO.
And the folks who suffer the most are the good hard working residents of the east side who want nothing more than safe neighborhoods for themselves and their families.
    Selfish grandstanding at its worst.

  8. In 1980-2003 I lived in a JC Nichols development near Brookside. We had many races living in the neighborhood. The racial covenants have been dead longer than Elvis. Blacks who can afford it move out of Black neighborhoods. Those who can’t wish they could.

  10. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. You people screaming RACIST all the time sound like Charlie Brown's teacher. You're nothing more than background noise. You've dulled the term to the point of it being an impotent weapon. Thanks! Have a nice day!

  11. Does Mahreen Ansari know where she goes to college?

Gladly beating the dead-horse which is J.C. Nichols' revisionist history tarnished legacy, Mahreen conveniently ignores the university which she chose to attend.

If J.C. Nichols was such a bad man, then it's only fair to go back to the 1920's-1930's and compare him to his contemporaries, right? You are going to be fair aren't you?

UMKC was once known as the University of Kansas City (UKC). The 40-acre plot of land that became the campus was purchased and donated by William Volker (as in the Volker Campus).

If you think J.C. Nichols was a racist outlier for his era, please research some of the names which have adorned UMKC buildings or otherwise been associated with it's history (Volker, Dickey, Scofield, Walt Disney, Swinney, Truman, Haag, Newcomb, Mannheim, etc.).

Prior to 1947, the university forbid enrollment to people of color. Should we raze the campus? Start the bulldozers!

    ...and take a history class!

  14. Nichols pretty much pioneered block busting of stable established neighborhoods resulting in the segregated city we now have. There are books about it.

  15. J.C. Nichols died in 1950. That was 70 years ago. Why condemn SOME of his earlier actions now?

  16. Because it fits the woke template.
