KANSAS CITY INSIDER: CITY HALL MUST SHUT DOWN ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT SUBSIDY AMID COVID-19 BUDGET CRISIS!!!

For our late night denizens we share a local spending truism that has been continually repeated by local voters, homeowners and taxpayers . . .

KANSAS CITY CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY FOR ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICTS AMID THE THREAT OF COVID-19 BANKRUPTCY!!!

Here's the word and something that most of our readers agree upon . . .

"Now is the time to renegotiate city hall's deals with the entertainment districts. Millions upon millions every year for these "party venues" is a crime when we're talking about the possibility of cutting police and threatening the security of every resident. We can't afford to pay for bars or luxury apartments any longer; THIS is where we need to start cutting FIRST . . . Not law enforcement, transportation or first responders. "

Of course, a common focus of complaints is the 18th & Vine District that continues to siphon money from City Hall despite $100-MILLION in funding over more than a generation without any sustainable profit model.

But the calls for cuts don't stop there . . .

Kansas City's $15-MILLION-PER-YEAR deal at the P&L District is one of the worst financial arrangements in municipal history and city hall is still on the hook to FUND LUXURY HOUSING WHILST THE WORKING POOR CONFRONT EVICTIONS.

Now, of course there is resistance to any change in the status quo but insiders advise that the VERY REAL THREAT OF KCMO BANKRUPTCY will inspire some movement on these indefensible expenses at 12th & Oak.

Developing . . .

  1. Actually, this needed to happen 5 years ago to avoid bankruptcy.

    1. Totally makes sense, let's give millions to build luxury apartment parking lots when we can't even make sure the water doesn't take like crap.

  3. The budget crisis is not from COVID. Nice try though. The budget crisis if from poor spending poor planning locking things down when they didn't need to be for so long and poor city leadership if you can call it leadership, I certainly can't. More like thug controlled. What goes around......

  4. Turn 18th & Vine into a penal colony!

  7. Where the fuck have you been? Citizens have been struggling to stop the corporate welfare giveaways for years?

  8. Power & Light district is much more important than some incompetent KCMO pigs

18th & Vine money could be pulled back so we can pay for important things like street naming rights and hair discrimination laws

Wonder how many kickbacks the council and mayor's office got from P&L contactors? The only way these deals make sense is if the P&L folks were kicking back big dollars. That may be worth an investigati...Oh. Wait. We cut the police budget, so....

  11. Hey, KCMO...please keep the welfare going to pay for the rich playground at the Power and Light district for wealthy, white liberals. Continue to finance their booze playground! Continue to prop up the P & L district at all costs. We are counting on you to finance and support white entitlements like cushy corporate jobs that can WFH, booze fests at the P & L, and fancy concerts at the Sprint Center for white suburban women.

Bankruptcy! Bankruptcy! He's our man! He can do it! Great!

  13. KCMO CAN'T "shut down" the P&L Disctict subsidy.
Those are BOND payments guaranteed by the city, which means, of course, by the taxpayers.
That guarantee was the only way the bonds could have been sold in the first place.
And the fine print on the new "luxury hotel" deal with the city is just one of many inappropriate financial obligations KCMO has taken on over the years.
Looking for quarters in the sofa cushions at 12th and Oak has just barely begun.

  14. ABOUT DAMN TIME!!!!!

  15. What happened to the 80 or was it 800 million in bonds voted?

  16. Bankruptcy is what happens when you allow rioters to destroy the Plaza and intimidate P&L patrons. No sales tax revenue.

Anyone with money is fleeing Kansas City.

This is what happens when a doofus College Professor is elected Mayor of a City.

    The City goes bankrupt.

College Professors are Marxists that do not understand common business economics or the need to treat ALL Americans with respect and dignity.

College Professors can recite out of a text book and that is about it. Very dumb people as no real-life experiences living in the college cocoon their whole adult life supported by taxpayers.

  19. ^^Contrast that description with your failed life. Lonely, old, nothing better to do than get on a blog all day and complain about better people than you. Advantage: The College professor.
