Fight Over Jackson County Evictions Cont'd

KC Tenants press the local court system to back up a "rent strike" that might not have solid legal standing.

Here's another glimpse at the crisis . . .

Jackson County evictions still taking place despite CDC order

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Jackson County court records show evictions are still taking place despite an order from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) aimed at protecting people from losing their homes during the pandemic. In September, Jackson County approved 127 evictions.

  1. Stupid Kshb gets it wrong again, if only they had someone smart enough to know the cdc doesn’t make the rules for rental properties. Wasn’t there just an article the other day explains the rules and that evictions are still legal at this time.

  2. Yeah, KSHB is dumb or dishonest or both. They've had more than enough time to figure out what the CDC order covers and does not cover. Whether it's a legal exercise of CDC power is a more difficult question, and well beyond the ability of KSHB to consider.

  3. CDC does not issue orders, only recommendations!

  4. KSHB, just like the Star and other TV "news" programs, doesn't care about facts or actually investigating issues.
They have a narrative and an agenda and that's what they're going to pursue and report.
And the current BLM/racism/white privilege agenda is that "people of color" continue to be crushed by systemic racism, police brutality, the criminal justice system, and all the rest of the majority of the population.
    When you're a hammer, the whole world's a nail.
They love drama, division, and controversy, and, if that's all you're looking for, you'll find it every time.
And then these folks wonder why the public's opinion of the media is so low.

  6. Jackson County granted my eviction request within weeks. It's not that they aren't compassionate. No one wants anyone homeless. But, if I can't collect the contracted rent, then I can't make mortgage, insurance, and tax payments. In addition, my tenant had the utilities shut off, endangering the other tenants and the property (she was using oil-burning lamps). She didn't show up in court - immediate win for me. Out on the street in a week. She was a postal worker when she rented. I heard from another tenant that she quit her job. The pandemic didn't cause her to lose her job. Card-carrying member of the Free Shit Army. Now lives in her car. Sorry, not sorry.

If there is even a rumor of having rent delayed or waived, there are those (of every color) who will work harder on NOT paying their rent than they ever have worked ón paying it. And what about the landlord left holding the bag? How is that right?
