TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY FOODIE SCENE FEARS LEGAL FIGHTING AS GIFT CERTIFICATES TURN TO GARBAGE AMID SPATE OF CLOSED RESTAURANTS!!!

Remember at the outset of the pandemic, cowtown hack foodie writers advised locals to buy gift certificates in order to help struggling restaurants.

Now, a thoughtful reader posed this question to the Missouri Treasurer's Office regarding recently revoked coupons . . .

"Can they, as a closed restaurant, do that? Or would they have to declare bankruptcy to possibly avoid the obligation to refund?"

Fact is the situation is perilous for every local restaurateur . . . HOWEVER, with dozens of local joints closed and the list growing every day. It's unlikely that customers will get their cash back without a fight.

Context from the KC Biz Journal: Nearly 500 KC-metro businesses have permanently closed since March

Sadly, it's hard to believe in American Exceptionalism or anything after the Burger King in Waldo shut down.

Even worse, social media is rampant with stories of local restaurant workers and vendors getting stiffed as well.

  5. The Waldo Burger King's closing was decades overdue. I like Burger King, but that one was just awful. Customers were considered an unwelcome intrusion into the staff's lives. Its closing was not as surprising as its being able to stay open so long.

  10. Take the issue to AOC, she is the one who tweeted out that they need to keep businesses closed a little longer to help Trump lose the election. She said it won't hurt to keep people unemployed or business closed a little longer.
