New KCI Legal Drama Taking Off

A contract scandal which STARTED ON THIS BLOG now threatens to delay the biggest construction project in Kansas City history. Whilst there is a low-key debate about hiring practices in this story. For now we'll just call it the cowtown WBE Vs. MBE battle royal for more than 80 MILLION BUCKS!!!

Here's a worthwhile story and quick recap of the impending drama:

Legal action could stop, delay KCI terminal construction

KANSAS CITY, MO. - Kansas City, Missouri, could face a Federal Aviation Administration investigation as it responds to a discrimination complaint over a $70 million contract awarded for the new single-terminal construction project at Kansas City International Airport. ESCO Construction, the losing bidder, asked the the FAA to look into the KCMO City Council's intervention into the bidding process for concrete.

  1. Good, the mayor and most of the city clowncil should be individually sued for their racist practices and besides, I thought the airlines were building this project privately, why is the racist mayor and MeLIEsa Rob n go sticking their big fat noses into other peoples business?

  4. So, this "no cost to taxpayers" airport is going to cost us millions in lawsuits on top of the billions in cost overruns? This is pure corruption. Racism is the cover, but it comes down to money in Robinson's pocket. She won't be the first councilperson to go to prison. If we only had a prosecutor.

  10. LMG owner Lisa Garney is well connected politically and in business in KC. She's a part of the local construction community. There are powerful people that support her. There has to be a significant backstory to all this. It should be noted this this is a perfect example of what essentially is a pass thru contract with a "Woman owned business" that could not themselves perform the contract scope but would hire a sub subcontractor to actually do the work. This used to be verbotten until all the dictates to use "minority contractors". It's become common now. This is some kind of serious struggle between black politico's and the establishment construction community. This is not going down well with them you can be sure.

  11. Continuation of the above. You can be 100% sure that when it comes time to dole out campaign money for the next elections there will be empty hands with these upstart black council members.

  12. Clarity to the above comments. Lisa Garney owns G2 as well as LMG.

  14. how would it stop the project? they would be asking for money damages, right, not that a court make the parties do something , i.e. equity. maybe missing something.

not to say it isn't a horrible situation for the city to unnecessarily be in, but why does it stop the airport?

  15. 9:36, let me ask you, your last sentence, about a rift between construction elites and black community. I happen to have noticed in seeing various public projects that JE Dunn has going all over town, that I haven't once seen a black construction worker on one of those. Not like I am a bean counter or studying so closely or really care too much, but I did notice it, and I do find it odd. I have a sad suspicion that the minority owned contractors requirement isn't meeting the objective, especially when there aren't any just regular workers who are blacks.

  16. They need to redesign the airport to look like the zoomed in picture of coronavirus since thats what you will get if you board a plane

  17. ^^and yet you won't. But you wouldn't know that as you thankfully never leave Frogville. Weird.
