Kansas City Small Biz Continues Shutting Down As COVID-19 Pandemic Worsens

It's worth repeating that talk of a quick recovery from the plague is nothing more than an empty political promise. Meanwhile, a quick drive around town will reveal a vast number of empty storefronts as locals continue to lose jobs and economic opportunity amid dire forecasts of a second wave of illness and death on the horizon.

Take a look:

Small business landscape in Kansas City changing as COVID-19 impact lingers

(The Center Square) - The lingering COVID-19 crisis has made for a change to the small business landscape in Kansas City. Since the pandemic hit back in March, many shops across the area have bolted their doors for good, while other owners are still working to adjust to the new scene.

The ones that are able to move out of KC will and the ones that cannot will close for good. Lock downs don't work. Masks don't work. People are not allowed to work. These are problem and focusing only on questionable case numbers and a falsified death count should not keep us in this horrible state. Open up the economy. Issue guidelines but give people the right to take care of themselves and their own businesses. This absurdity has gone on long enough.

Masks work, shithead. Science. Heard of it? Go peddle your fantasies elsewhere.

If masks work so well, how did all the people die in New York brainiac?

It's bad when anyone dies, but really, more people die from the flu, or in car wrecks, than have with COVID. But we never shut down the economy over the flu, and I don't see us banning cars.

What's the difference here? Or is it just to dump trump by blaming him (after the democraps said he shouldn't close the borders to travelers)?

Science:

Review of the Medical Literature

Here are key anchor points to the extensive scientific literature that establishes that wearing surgical masks and respirators (e.g., "N95") does not reduce the risk of contracting a verified illness:

Jacobs, J. L. et al. (2009) "Use of surgical face masks to reduce the incidence of the common cold among health care workers in Japan: A randomized controlled trial", American Journal of Infection Control, Volume 37, Issue 5, 417 - 419.

N95-masked health-care workers (HCW) were significantly more likely to experience headaches. Face mask use in HCW was not demonstrated to provide benefit in terms of cold symptoms or getting colds.

Cowling, B. et al. (2010) "Face masks to prevent transmission of influenza virus: A systematic review", Epidemiology and Infection, 138(4), 449-456. doi:10.1017/S0950268809991658

None of the studies reviewed showed a benefit from wearing a mask, in either HCW or community members in households (H). See summary Tables 1 and 2 therein.

bin-Reza et al. (2012) "The use of masks and respirators to prevent transmission of influenza: a systematic review of the scientific evidence", Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses 6(4), 257-267.

"There were 17 eligible studies. [...] None of the studies established a conclusive relationship between mask ⁄ respirator use and protection against influenza infection."

Smith, J.D. et al. (2016) "Effectiveness of N95 respirators versus surgical masks in protecting health care workers from acute respiratory infection: a systematic review and meta-analysis", CMAJ Mar 2016, cmaj.150835; DOI: 10.1503/cmaj.150835

"We identified 6 clinical studies ... In the meta-analysis of the clinical studies, we found no significant difference between N95 respirators and surgical masks in associated risk of (a) laboratory-confirmed respiratory infection, (b) influenza-like illness, or (c) reported work-place absenteeism."

Clinical Infectious Diseases, Volume 65, Issue 11, 1 December 2017, Pages 1934–1942, https://doi.org/10.1093/cid/cix681

Radonovich, L.J. et al. (2019) "N95 Respirators vs Medical Masks for Preventing Influenza Among Health Care Personnel: A Randomized Clinical Trial", JAMA. 2019; 322(9): 824-833. doi:10.1001/jama.2019.11645

"Among 2862 randomized participants, 2371 completed the study and accounted for 5180 HCW-seasons. ... Among outpatient health care personnel, N95 respirators vs medical masks as worn by participants in this trial resulted in no significant difference in the incidence of laboratory-confirmed influenza."

Long, Y. et al. (2020) "Effectiveness of N95 respirators versus surgical masks against influenza: A systematic review and meta-analysis", J Evid Based Med. 2020; 1- 9. https://doi.org/10.1111/jebm.12381

"A total of six RCTs involving 9 171 participants were included. There were no statistically significant differences in preventing laboratory-confirmed influenza, laboratory-confirmed respiratory viral infections, laboratory-confirmed respiratory infection and influenza-like illness using N95 respirators and surgical masks. Meta-analysis indicated a protective effect of N95 respirators against laboratory-confirmed bacterial colonization (RR = 0.58, 95% CI 0.43-0.78). The use of N95 respirators compared with surgical masks is not associated with a lower risk of laboratory-confirmed influenza."

Sad to see TKC become nothing but the mouthpiece of the corrupt and compromised msm.

The pandemic is not worsening, hospital are empty, actual deaths are way down the virus as all viruses is mutating to be less lethal.

TKC is nothing more than carrying water for bozos and the Waltons. Billionaires are making billions off the shut downs and their lackey msm is happy to help.

Walmart Amazon lowes target mcdonalds home depot...all the big boys want this to continue along with the corrupt DNC and soros...all have their reasons.

The only conspiracy theory is believing they will not lie to you.

The Pitch is gone, once alternative news.

Try 4chan politically incorrect or Vaot.

Wear your mask...just 2 more weeks, flatten the curve, stay in stay safe, we are all in this together...it's all propaganda.

@752 Great cites! However, SARS COVI 2 is not an influenza class virus. Nor is it a rhinovirus (common cold). It is a SARS coronavirus. There is mounting evidence that it is spread through aerosol transmission in addition to droplet transmission, and that the main method of transmission is not through fomites.

Common cold easily spreads through coughs, sneezes, touching surfaces and then eyes, nose, mouth, etc. No vaccine.

Clean areas frequently, practice good hand washing.

Influenza spreads through coughs, sneezes, touching surfaces and then eyes, nose, mouth, etc. Some vaccine protection against some forms.

Clean areas frequently, practice good hand washing, Vaccine available, new drug treatments available if started early within the course of the illness.

Covid19: NO VACCINE. Easily spreads through coughs, sneezes and in many cases likely aerosols. Not as likely to live long on surfaces as the common cold virus or influenza.

Wash hands frequently. Cover your face and protect yourself from other people’s sneezes, coughs, etc. Cover eyes and mucous membranes. Items to help protect these areas are masks, goggles, protective glasses, n-95 respirators, face shields, etc

*the above is my own summary of the issues and possible ways to see the differences and the different choices facing people who would like more information on how to protect themselves. I work in a healthcare setting. Since the beginning of this covid19 outbreak, I have seen many unusual deaths, many unusual illnesses, with and without comorbidities. I would say that there is a lot that I personally do not understand about Covid19. Some things become clearer with time. I have seen some truly horrific scenes, that should be in a horror movie, but are actually worse than any depiction I have ever seen in one, yes, even worse than in the exorcist. For those of you who think that this illness is a joke, or isn’t real, or only preys on people who are already sick or were already going to die, you couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Fight about masks all you want. Deny the existence all you care to. It is real. It is here. And I sincerely hope that you and your families do not find out the hard way how real it is.

Maybe we should avoid panic, the consequences of politically motivated and inconsistent lockdowns, and attend to actual data thst would mitigate fear, like the fact that 95% of those who died 'from COVID' really died from a few things at once.

I also work in healthcare, where I see the consequences of irresponsible fear.

7:55 might want to log off 4chan conspiracy sites and and listen to real people in local news reports.

"Hospitals in Missouri’s third-largest city are approaching capacity due to a surge in coronavirus cases.

Officials at Springfield’s two major hospital systems, CoxHealth and Mercy, told the city council on Tuesday that they were running out of staff and capacity, the Springfield News-Leader reported.

Cox Medical Center South was housing a record 82 patients Monday, including around 35 in the hospital’s special unit for COVID-19, CEO Steve Edwards said Wednesday, noting that more patients are dying from the virus.

“We’ve had more deaths in the past month than we’ve had the whole year,” Edwards said.

Brent Hubbard, the chief operating officer at Mercy Springfield, said positivity rates were rising, indicating more people were becoming infected.

“We’re seeing the surge right now,” Hubbard said. “We’re seeing a record number of COVID-positive patients being hospitalized, and that’s not just overwhelming our (emergency rooms), it’s overwhelming our inpatient staff and is a growing concern for us.”

As of Monday, 89 Mercy caregivers were in quarantine, Hubbard said. Meanwhile, CoxHealth has been bringing in workers from out of town to help out in Springfield.

“Our staff is tired. They’re working hard,” Edwards said. He told the council that if the volume of sick people continues to increase, it is “conceivable” that the hospital won’t have enough staffing and will be forced to stop accepting referrals."

Any demographic data on those hospital admissions and deaths? I mean, I hate to get the way of the panic or anything but data clearly shows a narrow band of fatality in the compromised and elderly.

Weren't we supposed to have many millions of dead by now?

I used to think this was a hoax too.

Now I'm dead.

Give me today's Herman Cain memorial award.

No, we weren't supposed to have millions dead by now. Pandemic spread takes place over a couple years, not a few months. However, just keep acting like idiots and we will get there. After all, we are leading the world in deaths. 200,000+ served and still counting going into the flu season.

Heck of a job, Trump. Shout out to virus deniers and anti-maskers too.
