Kansas City Remembers Smaks

At the risk of delving far too deep into nostalgia for the late night . . . Here's a #TBT late night note and quick clip for fellow night owls.

"The first Smaks opened in 1956 at 5420 Johnson Drive with that traffic stopping stunt. Over the next 40 years, Smaks would grow into a regional burger chain with locations in seven states. It became a staple for families seeking cheap, quick burgers, thick shakes, and hand-dipped onion rings.

"Smaks helped shape the burger and fast food landscape in and around Kansas City. The Johnson County Museum is in the midst of putting together an exhibit with pictures and artifacts from Smaks. It’s a name that still resonates with local residents . . ."

Accordingly, we share . . .

The story of SMAKS Drive-In told in 60 seconds.

Take a look . . .

Thanks for reading today. Hopefully, we'll have more for the morning update . . . STAY TUNED!!!

  4. at the same time, families went to winstead's, where carhops came to your car to take and deliver your order.

or, you could go to sydney's on the plaza and order through an intercom.

allen's, further south on state line (?), also had an intercom system.

joe's diner on state line, the closest thing kansas city has ever had to a diner, was too prolo for some folks.
