Kansas City Advocates Decry Councilman Brandon Ellington's Use Of The R Word

Regarding recent KCMO city hall condemnation of intolerance, a TKC reader sent along this note regarding an overlooked comment that has met with objection among kinder Kansas City residents.

"City council meeting Aug 13th. I’m pretty sure the word he uses is way worse than what Loar said to Robinson."

Whilst we can totally understand the councilman's exasperation, the term in this clip is outdated and now considered hurtful.

And so, despite the deplorable, silly and sometimes hateful comments in the comment section of this blog . . . We hope post can provide a teachable moment for readers who are working to improve the quality of their language.

You decide . . .

  1. I know the project he's talking about. The word he's using is completely accurate.

  2. Race relations have slipped backward thanks to the violent side of the "movement". BLM blew it with their hyperbole over drug addicts and felons resisting arrest and loosing. Sorry I for one didn't but am now avoiding any contact with blacks.

  6. Brandon Ellington's family operates an unregistered charity in the state of Missouri, and Ellington has contributed campaign funds to it.

  7. Doesn’t matter what his intent was, he should be censured, loar said something innocuous and the mayor replaced her. Nothing will happen to him because he’s black and you don’t want to make black people mad.

he shouldn't have used that word. What's happening to our council? We used to have more class than this. C'mon Kansas City!

  10. 10:13 despicable dimwits is what happened, especially the black ones, they’re the worst. Just look at the cleave and mayor mcdrinkerson, worst of the bunch and Ellington if he stays involved in politics will make them look like children with his racist crooked ass self.

Tony, I know you get frustrated when your typing mistakes and grammatical errors get pointed out in the comments, but...

This is the best one in a while.

  15. President Trump gets to mock r-word people and get to become President. I see no issue here.

  16. So what in hell is the word?

  17. 10:02, presumably we have to watch the video of Ellington speaking to find out what "the word" is. Sorry, that's to great a price to pay for that info.

  18. He used the word "retarded" in a formal city council session. Really? Who uses that word? His vocabulary must be really limited if he couldn't come up with something else. He needs to be put in time out by the mayor and sent to some kind of sensitivity training just like Councilwoman Loar has been and have his duties suspended for a period of time. You can't pick and choose who you chastise on these things.

  19. thanks 1:26 - I also just did not understand what word the post was talking about!

so I guess that funny joke in Tropical Thunder where Robert Downey in blackface says to ben stiller's character: "you went Full Retard. you an artist" is totally not okay now, and also the blackface. will Robert Downey have to prostrate himself or how did he escape censure from that really funny role he played in that movie?

people love to be offended, is my take-away. outrage-peddling is probably TKC's best attribute
