Credit to our reader community who warned this would happen . . . The reality is that the pandemic has FOREVER CHANGED how people are doing biz and this monument to old school cowtown glory days is now obsolete.

Loews Hotel project faces disaster after the world abandons conventions

It's cocktail hour on a Tuesday evening, and I am social distancing at the new Loews Kansas City Convention Center Hotel. This is not difficult. My husband and I are two of just four guests at a bar meant to seat dozens. The place is gleaming and well stocked.

Comments

  1. City leaders refused to listen to the citizens and gave away the money for this failed hotel. KCMO may never recover from all the free CID and TIF corporate welfare giveaways. Too bad criminal charges cannot be made against current and former City mayors and councilmembers.

  2. Throw a few thousand in campaign coffers. Get back a few million.

That's how the rich steal from the poor. No broken glass. No thin blue line.

That ain't working. That's the way they do it.

    Your money for nothing ...

  4. I love it! Control freak Q Ball really shot himself in the foot here! Please keep things shut down Q Ball. You are doing an outstanding job of destroying Kansas Shitty and breaking the bank! You go boy!

  5. The airport and convention hotel would have failed regardless the fake virus. Sly and Company should be in prison. Better yet, targets in Swope park. Thieves!

    ReplyDelete
  6. The hotel will be fine.
After all, it has the taxing authority of the city of KCMO to generate as much money is needed to pay the debt.
And Burke and the rest of the transactions gang already have wisely cashed in.
    Dig deep, KCMO taxpayers.
And add this fiasco to the ever-growing list of financially upside-down "development projects".
And now, on to the airport terminal!

  7. Shut up Carville.

  8. The libtards had this glorious house of cards and all their little games and then the zombie cootie virus arrived. The perfect weapon to take the bad orange man down or so they thought. Pyrrhic victory. Instead they've destroyed Kansas Shitty and exposed many of the things that they had hidden from public view. Q Ball is going to get tossed on the recall. The new airport and toy choo choo will continue to be money pits. The blacks will still shoot each other in the streets but, hey, it's all good! Kansas Shitty has wonderful taxpayer funded street graffiti!

Kansas Shitty is get a fork done. Welcome to New Detroit! That name got poo pooed when I first called it that. Gets closer and closer to that shithole every day. Another I TOLD YA SO brought to you by the libtards at Shitty Hall. Be sure to thank them k?

  11. Good old fashioned looting of the public treasury. This is how cities go broke. No one is ever held accountable, named, or shamed.

The strategy is to pit the sentiments of the middle class against the poor. The wealthy are enriched while no one is looking.

The developers act like philanthropists, throw a few scraps back and smile for photos in The Independent society pages before heading back to their mansions.

Others just clip on a bow tie, join a board in Olathe, and pontificate on TV.

    Grifters grifting.

  12. seems like, notwithstanding rhetoric for public consumption, the rich are being helped by kcmo leadership over the years.

  13. The feds are gonna bail everyone out ... unemployed renters landlords airlines cities banks. Everyone but small business which will die on the vine.

This will work unless/until inflation, cryptocurrency, or loss of reserve status overweaken the dollar.

If things continue south ... what other option exists?

    ReplyDelete
  14. The option to be taking is letting them fail and wallow in the shitholes that their actions and greed created. Sorry, no participation trophies kids!

  15. The Libs blame Corona Virus when the fact is, it’s the liberal government that continually f’s these things up. Whenever you see a POS like the Pitch or KC Star use the virus, plug in a politician’s name.

  16. After the world abandons conventions??????? I think what they mean to say is...after the radial run cities abandons conventions. Believe it or not some people are moving on, life is normal.

That's what they get for building a hotel that wasn't needed.

    ReplyDelete
  17. They are building an airport that wasn't needed either. same thing with the toy choo choo extension.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I know. If they paint a BLM mural on the street out in front of the hotel, epic crowds will come from miles around to enjoy all of the good vibrations. Get right on it, Q-ball...at least after you force out the police chief...something else which is bound to make KC even more successful than it already is.

    1. I have experienced excellent vibes at the murals. They are definitely enlightened spaces with a powerful spiritual dimension and healing properties.

      Peace out KC.

  19. The hotels only have 10% usage throughout the year until a convention comes in, there’s no reason to have that many hotels to begin with.

  22. Mayor Lucas is so f*cking stupid that he doesn't realize to have a successful, vibrant city; KC needs to have law and order.

This is what happens when the public elects ignorant College Professors who have no real world business experience.

College Professors only regurgitate what one can read in a text book.

They are really, really dumb people and try to cover their ignorance with SJW b.s.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Colleges and professors in general have all been taking money from the Chinese for at least ten years now and the trade off for students is the Chinese rule what gets taught so they teach anti American shit and communism, the colleges and professors get paid well to stab America in the back by corrupting the students, this is why so many college kids are idiots today and why their college degree is worthless.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Stupid - reminds me of a past KCMO firm - "Weinrich Zitzmann Whitehead".......can you believe they used the words "Zit and whitehead" in the company title? Kind of like a clearasil commercial. They raised money to repair the old Thayer office building on Broadway and it was a waste - its still just a old pit of ugly bricks. The silliness in KCMO never ceases to amaze me. People throw money at everything. Weinrich Zitzmann Whitehead went bankrupt!

    ReplyDelete
  25. The real issue is that with the shutdowns and the work from home era, you don't have all of those little Johnson County boys shlepping it downtown anymore. This hurts in two ways. First, KCMO doesn't get to tax those dumb white honkeys with their 1% theft earnings tax. Two, those JOCO boys aren't renting hotel rooms in the middle of the day to shag their sugar baby whores anymore (you know, just go to Seeking JOCO Arrangement and you can have your fill of 20-year old hot pussy...just sugar talk them that you are interested in a long-term arrangement and then fuck them a couple of times in return for $100). KCMO hotels going down the drain without this double JOCO action.

  26. Good. We can put about 100 homeless people in that fine lobby alone, and fill up the rest of that new shelter with the rest of the area's homeless people. You CHUDs don't need no fancy hotel for conventions that aren't coming to Killa City.

  27. I live in the Northland. With the occasional exception of a drive thru taco or burger, I don't spend a dime in KC. Gas, food, products...NKC, Gladstone or Amazon. Only thing KC can screw me on regularly is water. Too bad. Once nice mid-size city. Now Mogadishu.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Gladstone has their own water ! F--k KCMO, BLM MLB and NFL.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Who is more dumb - the people who think these TIF's and subsidies will help tourism despite tons of unused rooms, or the voters who give these pols their jobs?

I dont think these developers are dumb. They win even when no one comes to a convention, hotel, or restaurant in KC. So you tell me....

    ReplyDelete
  30. Another example of "if you build it - they will come" not being able to factor in all possibilities. Maybe now the city will release the consultant's report on this boondoggle. You know, just for fun.

  31. When asked by the Democrats and the Republican convention committees how Kansas City could host a Republican or Democrat convention, the answer was clear. There's no up scale lodging or residence and Airbnb. So they built one light and two light and the convention Hotel. Why can Sports you are with the back of your card says you are. We are not some Big East Coast or West Coast Town we are the Midwest and midwesterners prefer it simple with no frills. Everything used to be up to date in Kansas City. It seems now we're chasing everybody else after everybody else redid their downtown's we now decide we have to when everybody was building baseball stadiums downtown, 20 years ago or more war now getting around to saying we want one downtown. We did not need a new airport we did not need the new convention Hotel and we did not need to redo downtown. We spent millions of dollars fixing the flooding problem in the plaza area just to basically trash and ruined the once-great Plaza. Every time Miss City moves forward on a big project it just bites them in the ass! It's gotten so bad in the city that black flight to the suburbs is greater than the white Flight of the sixties. Much like which has been going on in our major cities for the last 30 years, gentrification is now a hot item in Kansas City. We used to be our own town we used to be great, we used to be that shining City on the hill. We were, where the West truly began. Now the leaders are a bunch of sheeple herders leading the sheeple into the pens for Slaughter.

  32. The problem is we have weak sales people in KC. They have the wrong people in these positions. Nobody wants to sell anymore, these hotel leaders just want to tell people what to do.

The problem is the hotel leaders have no knowledge of the complete hotel world.

I only know one hotel person in KC that handles it all. He has been the #1 overall hotel sales leader for 20+ years.

Also, he is the best looking in KC too for the hotel industry. A total stud.

Great idea, we should change the name of Kansas City to correct the record and eliminate confusion.

  35. I remember when downtown KC was mostly broken up old parking lots, a convention center, and a courthouse and it rolled up the sidewalk at 5 pm. In the last couple of decades the downtown had made great strides. It was a destination, at least locally. From the River Market, the P&L district, Crossroads, and down to Westport and the Plaza Kansas City had something to offer. Now it is nothing but shuttered businesses and mean streets. But hey, Rex Archer and the Boy Blunder got to feel that rush of power telling other people what they may and may not do so it must have all been worth it.

  42. As has been mentioned, the COVID pandemic will just be a convenient excuse for the libs in this town that backed this farce of a hotel to say, "Well, if not for COVID the hotel would have been a huge success!!" Which is the biggest piece of bullshit ever told. Many people with at least half a brain in their skull said, BEFORE this thing got ramrodded thru the TIF Commission, the Council and all that this was not needed and would fail. Even BEFORE the pandemic experts within the city were already saying KCMO had too many hotel rooms downtown. And again, this was all BEFORE COVID. All COVID did was push the gas pedal down to something that was already happening and magnified an already festering, hot pile of shit.

Meanwhile, Burke, JE Dunn, Loews and all the entities and people with money, S'lie included, made off like bandits like they always do and normal, tax paying citizens, many of whom were already struggling, get fucked over and left holding the bag, like they always do with these deals.

But, hey, least a lot of rich people got richer. Just wait till the check comes due on that airport that we needed and said wouldn't cost tax payers a dime!

Give it another 3 years or so before the city says we need to expand Bartle Hall again to spur conventioneering. Or that the Sprint....errr...T-Mobile Center needs money for upgrades so we can attract a professional sports team.

Same shit, different day, rinse and repeat in this town.
