Actually, there's a pretty good case that widespread rioting shut it down amid 28 other storefronts that are also closed.

Coronavirus pandemic delays Nordstrom's Plaza store
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Nordstrom announced Thursday that its fans will have to wait a little while longer for its new store to open on the County Club Plaza. Citing delays caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the retailer said it would not open its new location on Jefferson Street at Nichols Road.
ReplyDeleteBull what they are trying to do is get out of a bad deal due to the riots not the virus. 2022 Come on. They know the loss they would have to take if this happened again and their insurance would go so high no one would shop there. I wondered what they were doing in the first place, the Plaza is not what it used to be and never will be again as long as you have people like Lucas running the city and cops like Smith running the police force.
I don’t believe the Plaza is seen as a “get away” any longer. You can call it urban blight or whatever you like. When riots were allowed to take place there and you continue to see mobs of , mainly black youths smoking weed, the luster is off the place. To many other options. If I were Nordstrom’s, I’d move South on the Kansas side.
ReplyDeleteStick a fork in the Plaza. Unfortunate but it’s toast.
ReplyDeleteNordstrom saying fuck you Kansas City and see ya because we ain't going to be like stupid like you.
ReplyDeleteStick a fork in the plaza its done.
ReplyDeleteStick a fork in Kansas City. If it cannot even attract high-end retail to its Plaza location the writing is on the wall. Mayor Dumass did it again.
ReplyDeleteWhy ????? There’s so many young Africans Americans that would love to visit this lovely store.
ReplyDeleteWho cares? The Plahzah is dead.
ReplyDeleteRemember what happened to the bannister mall said.....
ReplyDeleteWhen they allowed that kolored woman to open a ghetto store down there that was the final nail in the coffin, nothing against her but when you start putting basically what amounts too ghetto clothing and ghetto drawing “patrons” with rap sheets a mile long well.....
Wondering if shoplifting at Nordstrom's is allowed like it is at so many other places. Word among the shoplifting geniuses spreads quickly when they find out store staff allows it.
ReplyDeleteA dead drug dealer dies in the hospital from an overdose 500 miles away and a bunch of out of control children ruin the last chance for an area of this city to stay nice. The Playza is now an empty spot on the edge of the slum. Thanks low IQ murdering idiots.

BLM creating more raciest by the minute.
The same thing will happen to the Plaza that happened to Indian Springs in KCK. It was a nice mall in the 80s. It went to shit in the 90s when the place became patronized by mostly blacks. It is now a bulldozed memory. That is what the Plaza will become. Just demolish it now and rebuild in a nicer area maybe north of the river.
ReplyDeleteseems like a rational approach.
ReplyDeleteI bet it never opens.
ReplyDeleteToo bad there's no mask to avoid Negroes.
ReplyDeleteThis is just a soft stall to give them and their attorneys time to get out of the deal with the least financial damage possible. Sadly, as others have noted, the Plaza so many of us loved is no more. Oh, and 10:29, thanks for making me literally LOL!
ReplyDeletethe plaza will come back if a vaccine eliminates covid.
ReplyDeleteif there's no effective vaccine, it's the end times for old retail.
It is government policy and irrational fear that are destroying old retail, not SARS-CoV-2. People have immune systems that are quite capable of adapting, even to this new disease, even as the disease becomes less virulent and deadly. Future generations are going to laugh their asses off at the generation of pussies who got scared out of their wits over a little virus and destroyed their lives and livelihoods.
