TKC TOLD YOU SO!!! KANSAS CITY POLICE 'LOCAL CONTROL' STAYS LOSING!!!

A bad idea pushed forward by Black Lives Matter protesters has now been ELIMINATED from the 2020 election cycle just as our blog community predicted.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY RESIDENTS OVERWHELMINGLY REJECTED MAYOR & COUNCIL TAKING OVER POLICE DESPITE SOCIAL JUSTICE PROTEST AND RIOTING!!!

TKC readers predicted this defeat back when Council Dude Eric Bunch sold out BLM and put forward local control as a "legislative priority" that would quickly be dismissed by the GOP super-majority in Jeff City.

Here's the cleaned up version of the story from public radio progressives . . .

Local Control Of Kansas City Police Department Off The November Ballot After Mayor Asks For Delay

Deets:

On Tuesday, Lucas asked a city council committee to wait to approve the ballot language, meaning the question won’t be finalized before a deadline this week.

“The goal there being that we can have more discussion both on it as a legislative priority in connection with our other legislative priorities,” Lucas said.

The mayor plans to talk the issue to death when all of the protest momentum following the police killing of George Floyd has vanished.

This is a big departure from a bold pronouncement earlier this Summer . . .

Back in June the mayor declared . . .

“We have heard the community’s demands for an accelerated effort to explore the issue of local control—and today we’re taking decisive action to provide our electorate an opportunity to weigh in on this issue,” said Mayor Lucas. “Decisions about the future of public safety in our community should be in the hands of our voters. I look forward to hearing from the people of Kansas City on the best path forward. This is one of many steps we’re taking to create a better and more accountable City government, improve community relations, and build the best police department for our community and our officers.”

Of course the Kansas City Star was quick to jump on this bandwagon whilst our blog community pointed to a nightmare scenario in STL following their local control vote.

On the bright side . . .

MAYOR Q DID HEAR FROM VOTERS WHO THINK 'LOCAL CONTROL' I.E. A CITY HALL POLICE TAKEOVER IS A HORRIBLE IDEA!!!

Backing off this issue for the Mayor isn't a bad move . . . Whilst Council Dude Bunch leaving the issue to lobbyists in Jeff City is a remarkable sellout and betrayal . . . Mayor Q can accurately claim that voter feedback was overwhelmingly negative and leadership that caters only to protest demands is unwise.

Developing . . .

  2. Why does BLM get any say ? A violent socialist splinter group with questionable support by anyone over thirty or anyone that pays property or business taxes ? A big f--k them is more than they deserve. Put them in jail.

  3. Over 50% of the public supports BLM. By your logic, you don't get any say.

  5. Really an easy call.
Just watch the antics of Lucas and the kiddie corps for a few days and then ask yourself if you want that crew in a position to control and direct your public safety department.
    They collectively couldn't run a one-car garage.
And wasn't Lucas just complaining to Newt Gingrich about the falsehood that the Missouri governor runs the KCMO police department?
The wind blows and the weather vane spins.
    Sad.

  8. Another example of how powerful the police union is. They didn’t want this vote and now Lucas backed down. To be fair, the vote was going to be expensive and completely worthless. Make it a legislative priority and do what they already had the authority to do.

  9. 832 you watch too much MSM propaganda...few support it even in the black community. Only (((those))) trying to exploit blacks and low information and weak minded ppl support it.

Even less support the more one knows...just check out its website and goals and you too will be appalled.

If ppl really supported it all the propaganda would be unnecessary.

  10. Just look at it this way, if the red star is for it you should be against it. Also Quinton Lucas needs to get an original idea and stop following what other communist cities are doing. He truly is an educated idiot and his parents have to be just as stupid. Wasted a lot of money too if they paid for his college.

  15. Police union isn't even power among police. They only have about a dozen active members in a department of thousands. People who claim they have power spend too much time on social media. Politically, the biggest KC police union is a paper tiger.

I have a legitimate question for those BLM supporters who frequent these comment sections. Local police control continues to be one of the demands made by these protests. As such, can anyone answer:

    1. What exactly would change by having the police under local control rather than the present state appointed board?
    2. How would these changes benefit the community in general and those protesting specifically?

    ReplyDelete
  28. ^^^^

    One word: Accountability.

    Now there is none.

Police should be in the power of elected officials, not appointed ones.

The public believes this and that's why Governor Parson is going to be voted out.

A disappointing, if not at all unexpected, response that doesn't answer anything. Repeating the same buzzwords is fine for your followers but it isn't going to convince anyone outside of that circle.

  30. The members of the Police Board are all residents of KCMO, nominated by local elected officials, and appointed by the governor.
The mayor is a member of the board.
The notion that somehow people are nominated and appointed who don't care about crime, violence, and homicides in the city is as absurd as it is insulting to those individuals.
Why not ask the local folks WHO NOMINATED THEM why they thought they'd be productive engaged members of the board?
The whole idea of "local control" is nothing more than a handful of the usual suspects who want to "run" the show and get their hands on the KCPD budget.
Violence in the city would only get worse by pursuing this irresponsible course of action.
That's why it's not going to happen.
These folks should stick to something simple like renaming streets and fountains.
Which they have already screwed up.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Sorry. I don't think the current people running our city could manage a neighborhood block watch let alone the kcpd.

  32. He seems to have shut up about Chief Smith and even claims NOW to have a "great relationship with our police" . Yep, they hate his guts. With friends like him . . .
