New Missouri Law Means Motorcyclists Can Ride Without a Helmet - The Intelligent Driver

This fall could see Missouri's bikers 'ridin' down the highway' without helmets - shades of 'Easy Rider' for the Show Me State. The new law comes into force on 28 th August and strikes another blow for freedom of choice. But, the new law isn't without exceptions.

  1. There's a saying (an accurate one). "if you ride, you WILL (at some point) GO DOWN."

I've been riding for 50 years. I still ride back roads and curves hard and fast. I HAVE BEEN DOWN several times. Hospital twice, but love to ride! Point is riding without a helmet is STUPID. YOU WILL, AT SOME TIME, GO DOWN.
I recall one of the times my head literally "bouncing" of the pavement. I ended up for a short hosp stay, but without the helmet I'm loathe to imagine the damage. I don't object to the law, just those that think it will never happen to them.

  3. These future Darwin award winners without their motorcycle helmets should not be eligible for health insurance.

Brain injuries are a $ million plus medical claim and will skyrocket our health insurance premiums.

Wonder if the legislators thought this one all the way through.

  7. Once again...

Motorcycles comprise 3% of all US Registered Motor Vehicles.
Motorcycles are involved in 55% of all US Motor Vehicle Fatalities.
93% of those Motor Vehicle Fatalities are "Single Vehicle Accidents".

These facts (source = USDOT) are overlooked in the article from "Intelligent" Driver Magazine!

Oh, well, at let it'll reduce the spread of Covid-19 and cut down the number of Trump Supporters even more.

  8. Want a closed casket funeral? Dont wear a helmet.

Watch a few huge Indy car crashes where the driver walks away - due to a great helmet

What I find funny is that states will let cyclists ride without helmets, yet mandate seatbelts for drivers. Life is a risk, and you weigh that risk every time you eat, drink, or step out the door. Flying in an airplane is risky, yet millions of people weigh that risk every year. Eating fatty foods is risky, as is smoking and drinking alcohol. Yet, those things are all allowed. If motorcyclists want to ride without a helmet, let them. They can weigh the risks just as anyone else can for anything that is risky.

  15. Ride Free Brothers! And be sure to leave a will along with instructions about disposal of what's left of your body. It's not just boomers riding the donor cycles. Plenty of young rebels riding the line out there. Go fast and die young. Your corpse won't be beautiful, though.

  16. @11:24, maybe its because the taxpaying public knows they'll be the ones stuck supporting the string of kids you leave behind with your rotating door of wives, girlfriends and whatevers. After all, "real men" in your little part of the World, don't wear helmets or rubbers, right?

News for you roadkill, Real Real Men take care of their Responsiblities by not riding Donorcycles and putting their children's futures at risk!

  17. the obituaries are my favorite part of print media. So many macho's don't make it past their 40's or 50's as if they didn't get the memo "don't be a dick"

Yeah, I wanted a bike but I "manned up" and bought a Prius so the state wouldn't have to support me. They have enough problems supporting the 13%.

  20. Even Eric Bunch and all the gay Bike/Walk KC shitheads wear helmets, unfortunately.

  21. Maybe your a excellent life long bike rider. But when the 90 year old guy makes a left turn in front of you, then you will realize the value of a helmet. Many elderly have caused deaths due to their left turns, I dont think any go to jail. They just lose their driving rights. Want to die with no justice? Ride a bike w/o helmet

  22. If you have to have a brain transplant in the future make sure to say "I don't want the brain of a person that would ride a motorcycle without a helmet".

  23. 2:12 Well, I’m neither a guy or a motorcycle rider, and I don’t have kids. But I guess you know everything, huh?
