Missouri Medicaid expansion could cost taxpayers $200 million

KANSAS CITY, Mo - Expanding Medicaid, which Missouri residents voted in favor of in Tuesday's primary election, could cost the state $200 million. The expansion is estimated to add 250,000 people to the insurance program in Missouri. Proponents of the expansion suggest it will save the state money by increasing the reimbursement amount the state receives from the federal government.

  1. 200 million or do you mean 2 Billion ?

  2. $200 million in local responsibility, with $2B provided by the feds (which is, in essence, local money too). So...Enjoy that, Missourians. The people in poverty were already getting health care, but now you added even more grift to the pot. Nice job, low-information voters. And, icing on the cake - it's an amendment. Very hard to reverse this grift.

  3. As with any entitlement, the price tag is severely underestimated to get it in place. It will fail, they will whine for more money and it will continue to fail because not enough was thrown at it. Heard it all before.

  4. 250,000 Mo residents will now get healthcare that is 90% subsidized by Federal dollars. That is a good deal. The 200 million dollar state cost comes to $800 per person. Add the 90% Federal contribution and the total is $8800. That covers about one year's healthcare premium. Healthcare is a right in every Western economy but ours. That is why we pay outrageous drug prices and insurance premiums and they don't. When the Federal subsidy runs out ... well that is another issue.
