Redux: KC Tenants Shout 'Evictions Are An Act Of Violence' Amid Demonstration At Jackson County Courthouse

A low-key video celebration chronicles recent protest promoted by "viewer like you" via the progressive local public TV magazine.

"A recent study from CNBC based on Census Bureau data shows that 48% of Missouri households and 34% of Kansas households will be at risk of eviction in August. Tenants' rights group KC Tenants disrupted Jackson County eviction court on Thursday, July 30th in an attempt to lower these numbers."

Take a look . . .

  1. In outer space you can't hear anyone scream.
And both Jackson County government and these endless protests over one "issue" and DEMAND after another are truly the definition of a vacuum.

  2. The democrats brought this virus on and the democrats wanted the economy shut down not just in our country but worldwide. It's a globalist I want to rule you stunt. aka globalism and the brave new world. So if you are evicted from your home you can blame the democrats.

Did you know some people are receiving notices that they have the virus? Funny thing these same people never got tested.

It's violence to expect tenants to pay rent. It's violent to force homeowners, car buyers, credit card users, restaurant patrons, utilities users, and movie goers to have to pay for stuff. It's violence! How DARE you expect these people to pay bills!

Love how my tenants pollute my lawn with thousands of cigarette butts at $5 a pack, stink up the interior of the units with pot smoke (because apparently smoking pot doesn't count toward the no-smoking restriction in their lease), and enjoy cable TV while not working and earning $1,200 a week in benefits. You know what's violence? That I had to pay their bills for them while they were unemployed and now we ask for one week's freebie handout to pay for rent and it's all gone because they bought pot and went to the lake. It's violence not to pay your rent, lazyasses.

  4. Funny that this was a problem years before Covid. Got money for I phone, crack rock, spinners on the Chrysler 300 and nails done every sat night. However, landlord or taxpayers need to house for free. Weird

  5. People on unemployment have been making an extra 600 a week since covid hit. This just ended the end of last month as most people know. The total weekly unemployment in MO was 925 a week. Most likely alot more than most were making working. So if you pissed off the extra cash thats on you. For every action there is an equal reaction. If you didnt pay your bills expect your landlord to evict you. Makes since to me and probably 90 percent of the rest of the country.

  6. So to these bozos, evictions are violence, words are violence, microaggressions are violence, but tagging buildings, destroying statues and breaking windows are not violence.

    Sure.

  7. ^^and yet none of that has happened here in over a month. Weird.

  8. @7:29 Your obviously snarky comments under my name are not appreciated.

Indeed, it IS violence to expect folks to pay rent if their ancestors were slaves.

We landlords, whether we are white, brown, yellow or red owe BLM folks reparations for whatever privilege we have. To enhance my commitment to the rich tapestry of multiculturalism, I am now donating my rental units to BLM members in perpetuity.

I will also humbly spend my valuable and privileged spare time picking up those butts (and needles) you refer to. This will be the shining example of my devotion to social justice.

  9. Tired of the bullshit8/5/20, 10:00 AM

CNBC ??? No partisan news coming out of that cesspool.

I suspect those numbers represent the TOTAL percent of rental units, and make the illogical leap to suggest any and all renters are subject to, or threatened by, eviction.

Total bullshit. The overwhelming majority of renters respect the property and pay their rent on time, every month, without complaint. Just more liberal distortion of facts.

    WHAT DO WE WANT?
    FREE SHIT!

    WHEN DO WE WANT IT?
    NOW!

    WHO SHOULD PAY OUR RENT?
    LANDLORDS!

    WHY?
BECAUSE LANDLORDS ARE ALL GREEDY, VIOLENT, AND RICH! THEY DON'T HAVE TO PAY MY UTILITIES, DON'T HAVE TO PAY A MORTGAGE, TAXES, OR INSURANCE, AND THEY SHOULD JUST LET US LIVE IN THEIR PROPERTIES FOR FREE BECAUSE THEY CAN AFFORD IT FOREVER!!!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Landlords/owners see tenants as sheep to be sheared, not as people. Most of these rat holes that pass for homes should be condemned. You have to ask the owners, would YOU live in your own property? Critics are lumping poor people in with lazy, no-good drifters. Walk a mile in someone's shoes before criticizing their life.

  12. Gee ..If a landlord has a bank that holds the mortgage on the property... Who loses? The landlord who has carried the payments and is now broke. The tenant can blame him and the bank foreclosed.

    1. Who loses?

Certainly not the bankers. They always get bailed out while the tennant and landlord classes are at eachothers throats.

      As planned. Carry on.

  13. There is nothing government can do about this. There is zero money available to address it. Our legal system means property owners retain all rights for the property so they can make a profit (hopefully) I empathize with the renters plight but there is no hope for them here. This is all going to get much worse for more people including the middle class. It's going to be worse than 1929. Plus if the morons in the city government do another shut down, it will be catastrophic.

  15. Could Byron be any more ignorant of how the world works? He wants to turn white people into virtual slaves because of something that ended generations ago. Multi billions have been spent on helping blacks gain equality of opportunity and legal rights. They got all that plus significant favoritism in hiring and admission to schools. So what happened? A significant percentage was left behind because they were incapable of succeeding due to low levels of IQ. Give these people money and in less than 6 months it will be pissed away. No matter what the only thing that matters is their own willingness to work hard, have personal discipline and take personal responsibility for their lives. Most black folks get it. They work for a living, pay bills, many get ahead in life. Just like everyone else. Stupid white "liberals" listen to the wrong black folks. These people would destroy the good for the unworthy.

  18. When I was much younger, I saved my money, drove old cars, lived in affordable homes, and never vacationed. I invested all of my time, energy, and money into buying old properties, fixing them up, and flipping or renting them. I'd live in any of my properties, and often did while they were being rehabbed. I am still making a killing on rent, even if a handful don't pay. I jacked the prices up in February pretty good. I had one guy give me his truck for three months rent. A nice truck! I think a lot of tenants want to pay their landlords. I'm willing to give them a break. If I only had one or two properties and had liens, I'd be worried. I have one multiple unit property near UMKC that pays all of my bills. Always 100% rented. That property will provide more cash flow than social security when I retire.

  22. If I were a landlord the first thing I would do is to pay myself a salary, a big salary. Then since the company still owed me money for my salary I'd make sure the utility bills were not paid on my rentals. Then the non-rent paying scum living in my buildings would leave voluntarily or live without heat, AC, refrigerators, no power or water or video games. I'd enforce all rules in the lease and if the still refused to leave I'd do something else to make life miserable for them, but continue to take my salary and pay the bank as much as I could. Call the cops if they start property destruction too and keep the deposits.
