Kansas City Streetcar Hypes Poetry Comeback Verse As Ridership Fades

In the midst of coronavirus the Kansas City streetcar garners nearly a fraction of the riders it boasted from just a year ago.

Quick stat check . . .

In June of 2019 the streetcar claimed 238,510.

For June of 2020 the streetcar counted only 48,940.

That's a 79.48% decrease which is actually an improvement from the first months of the pandemic.

The toy train has been slow to update stats as federal funding is looking unlikely this year or at any point in the near future if Prez Trump wins.

However, credit where it's due, the "folly trolley" continues to offer fans, friends and employees a great deal of hype like this bit of poetry . . .

"The 2020 Art in the Loop program features one KC Streetcar wrapped in the vinyl of hand-painted poppy flowers...the symbol of resilience.

"The "Hope & Gratitude" KC Streetcar features original art painted by Kansas City artist Ada Koch, alongside poetry written by Glenn North.

"Standing Strong" is an ode to Kansas City...through tough times and good times, this City stands strong. Glenn North's original poem can be found onboard the "Hope & Gratitude" KC Streetcar (801)."

Take a look . . .

  3. The street car is as big a joke as the painting of BLM on the streets.

  4. Are we hoping that the blacks show some gratitude for all the sacrifices white people had to make to give them free everything their whole lives?

  5. Who’s stupid enough to hop on the covid express?

It should have been shut down as well as the busses, Those two are probably the biggest spreaders of disease the city has, and of course the mayor has played his part with allowing the riots to happen.

  6. Who wants to ride the streetcar or do anything else in KC? It's now a depressed city thanks to Quinton Lucas who took it down worse than Sly did. KC is dangerous , dirty and no one wants to see low life people in the streets bashing our country and bashing white people or looking at BLM gang graffiti, and with the chief of police kneeling to the terrorists in our city, no one feels safe. Who in their right mind would want to come here. The Plaza is dead the city market has gotten really dirty no new exhibits at Union Station, crown center is dead, the Nelson is against police and has gone totally anti American. Why would anyone come?

  7. Maybe the poppies are a foreshadowing of what will be left of KC soon being nothing but opium dens and bordellos? Everything else that people have spent over a century building is being torn down by the nihilists. Well done, assholes.

  8. Getting ready to go on Fox news to make a number of deprecating comments about KC lunacy and failed leadership.

Won't help us, but might give Q Ball a headache since he tries so hard to be admired nationally.

  9. BLM graffiti on KC's streets is a huge negative for the Democrats. Biden should denounce the KC council for creating this mess and to stop all efforts to deface our streets. Politically this kind of action assures that Missouri and for that matter Kansas will remain Red this year.

  14. Most of the downtown offices have their people working from home so I doubt these numbers even more. No way 40,000 people are riding this thing a month right now.

  15. Wait until KCMO finds out the earnings tax does not apply to those working from home.

  16. great Candice pic --makes up for the disgusting Biden and Hillary photos.

    Fair and balanced reporting.

  17. It really doesn't matter how many riders there are on THE streetcar, since it's "free" and you really don't make up for lo margins with volume.
Which makes it even more curious why these folks have continuously enormously fabricated the ridership numbers ever since the tourist amusement ride opened.
Of course, whenever a new bureaucracy is created it doesn't take long before its highest priorities become its own existence and expansion.
A much bigger issue for THE streetcar is the withdrawal of $1 million advertising support from Sprint/T-Mobile.
You'd have to guess there's some serious dialing-for-dollars going on.
