Here's the upshot that most local newsies don't understand . . .
Remember "Go Bonds" that former Mayor Sly passed to help fund infrastructure???
To wit . . .
TODAY COUNCIL MOSTLY DECIDED TO LOOT STREET & SIDEWALK REPAIR MONEY IN ORDER TO SURVIVE THE PANDEMIC CASH CRUNCH!!!
A few more implications . . .
Parks & Rec maintenance will be almost nil . . .
Don't expect potholes to be filled anytime soon and as Fall & Winter bad weather approaches . . .
Codes enforcement is now mostly a myth . . .
The cut is tantamount to roughly 4.5% for most departments
The Kansas City Police Department will see a 2.25% cut, or $5.4 million. The department has not yet outlined what positions or programs it might eliminate.

Oh but they have money to paint silly shit on the streets.
ReplyDeleteBut yet they still paint potholes. Nice priorities! Welcome to New Detroit! Unemployed black lives matter!
ReplyDeleteSo when are you leaving? Soon, I hope?
DeleteAnd as the insurance company actuaries get a load of the mayor taking a knee and the prosecutor deciding not to enforce the law the rate increases will make it hard for business's to rebuild. At least the ones dumb enough to want to. KCMO tax is screwed.
ReplyDeleteKCMO will end up in court over the earnings tax soon. People working from home will contest that. Q Ball and the clowncil hasn't even considered that one yet. This is going to be so much fun to watch!

ReplyDeleteMore like they have robbed the funds to paint hate graffiti on the streets and to pay for bricks thrown through windows. But yet people who live there keep shoveling out the money to the criminals that run the city. Now the city is losing businesses, the 25 million tourists, and in financial trouble. I think that's great. Due to COVID Now that's funny. More like due to a dumb ass mayor and city council who don't know how to handle a city or a pandemic that their cohorts created.
Buwahahahahaha! What a bunch of idiots.
ReplyDeleteCity governments are first and foremost managers. Who do you want as a manager ? A bleeding heart liberal lawyer or a tight fisted business man. Oh well, maybe next election. A city without a tax base will need to make some hard decisions. Carwash and Lick Ass and the Race Card fatties on the clowncil all need to become social workers.

Will the citizens that dump blue and white paint on the hateful street graffiti get a free pass from the prosecutors, if a cop takes the time to care ?
ReplyDeleteThe $800M G.O. Bonds was just to insure that Sylvester and Schulte had safely left their offices before the KCMO budget went bust.
ReplyDeleteThey both lied to the public about how much more residents would actually end up paying.
Now Sylvester is a "consultant" and Schulte is working hard to screw Jackson County residents with ever higher taxes.
So they are using the $800 million bond fund to finance debt with debt? Great plan, what could go wrong?
ReplyDeleteMr Mayor I know you check the pulse of the city here on TKC but do you listen? Nobody wants "Murals" painted on the streets, NOBODY that pays taxes. Everybody is fed up with the incompetence of the liberal left running a muck in the city. You are going to be run out of this town on a rail by the first of the year. You have four months to get things back to normal or you lose your tax base and all of your power. This ain't soul train bro but you'd better get on board or get out.
ReplyDelete^^^^^FTW
ReplyDeleteAt least they are trying to make up most of the shortfall by cutting spending rather than taking it all out of the rainy day fund. Seems more responsible than most cities.
ReplyDeleteSurely there are breaker circuits in the Airport project that allow modifications and reductions for unforeseen circumstances affecting air travel needs? We obviously need less airport than we are building. Let's fix that.
No snow plows plus potholes? Not good for citizens or for Q. These are 101 basics for midwestern cities.
New bicycle lanes on Gillham Road south of 39th Street we have the money !
ReplyDeleteThe spendthrift ways of previous councils now come home to roost as there are no reserves for bad times that are always inevitable.
