Kansas City Star Keeps Subscribers Stupid By Publishing Corporate Hype

The Sprint acquisition has already cost 200 jobs . . . More cuts are inevitable.

Sadly, dead-tree media isn't very critical of corporate propaganda . . .

Kansas City Star: T-Mobile CEO commits to uphold Sprint’s legacy, keep major jobs presence in Kansas City

Money line . . .

He said T-Mobile will remain a major employer in the area. T-Mobile closed its merger with Overland Park-based Sprint Corp. in April. This week, it completed much of the work of phasing out the Sprint brand, moving stores and customers under the T-Mobile umbrella.

Throughout lengthy merger talks, T-Mobile pledged to keep a second headquarters in Overland Park. Some industry experts are skeptical of that promise, but in a statement to The Star, Sievert said that’s still the plan.

“We’ll absolutely continue to be a major employer in the region as Sprint’s campus in Overland Park becomes T-Mobile’s second headquarters,” he said.

Accordingly . . .

PLEASE REMEMBER THIS CORPORATE REASSURANCE WHEN T-MOBILE STARTS CUTTING EVEN MORE WORKERS!!!

Excuse me. They're called grants. That way they're tax deductible.

  2. Actually, Sprint hasn't had a BIG presence in KC in years.
Every time there's a merger between two unequals, it's always followed by an announcement that there won't be any layoffs and that the acquired company's presence and activities in the community won't change.
Then reality kicks in and it all pretty much goes away.
The Star's just another megaphone for the rah rah from the Chamber.

  3. Gee T-Mobile, and is the check in the mail, and will you respect us in the morning too?

  4. How long is the Sprint/T-Mobile naming rights on the arena? Better start looking for a new sponsor. No way T-Mobile will waste money on an arena with no national presence.

  5. If it's not costing them much, they'll keep paying, but they should be getting a break or rebate on the cost because of the lack of events there and less exposure.

  6. I think Sprint's naming rights run through 2029.

  7. T-Mobil already has the big arena in Vegas bearing their name-
doubt they'd want to pay for two

  8. ^^and yet they did dummy. Weird.

  9. ^^^ No, Weird Dummy @10:40 - the Taxpayers of Kansa City paid for and have to support the Sprint/T-Mobil/Somebody-please! Center, all T-Mobil did was drop a few small white envelopes on a few desks at 12h & Oak.

If you can, get somebody to help you look up the costs the Center has incurred since opening, it's all online, and compare the income from attendance, Naming Rights and Advertising to the expenses of operating the Center. Just like the P&L, hasn't yet shown a profit - ever!

  12. There was a Sprint marketing manager woman who used to troll Town Center on her lunch hour, find men, and have sex with them in her car in the parking lot. She dared a few other girls in her department and they did it too. She lives in Prairie Village near 83rd and roe.

  16. First, they only quoted the man. Just publishing his statement isn't supporting him.

    Not that you get that.

Second, then you can say TOLD YOU SO.

    Like a 3rd grader.

    Wait for it.

  17. It was a sale...not a merger. TMobile is in charge. Sprint is history and so are those jobs. Bye.

  18. It seems strange that they don't seem to cut any Washington jobs, only KC.

Probably because Sprint's HQ was in KC not DC. Then again it could be because of gloBULL warming.

  20. Hey I am not a boomer. And the woman having car sex on her Sprint lunch hour was 45! And married! So there bryon and funkhouser and who ever else is on here!

  21. ^^ Either way, if we want stories like that, we'll get much better ones from an old Penthouse magazine off eBay. That's what a friend of a friend tells me, anyhow.

  22. Guys from Sprint that personally didnt know the women or work with them, would seek them out at Town Center. Start small talk, claim they were a small business owner or something then get invited by the girls to have car sex. The girls never knew the guys were shadowing them just to meet and get sex. I though it dishonest. Trickery. But then how many people having 1 night stands are honest about who they are? But the girls kinda got taken....

  23. Sprint has the laziest and most overpaid staff in town. It couldnt have lasted forever. Do little work, get big paychecks, you dont even know who your boss is and never hear from anyone above.

    ReplyDelete
  24. If "Sprint" made all employees come into the office everyday, 8 to 5pm, they would see how worthless 80% of them are. But now with coronavirus they are hiding at home, in their PJ's, or at the golf course, pretending to get paid while they play with their dogs or golf. Sprint is stupid!
