KANSAS CITY PROTESTS BACKFIRE?!?!
There's a lot to cover this week but first let's look at the big picture . . .
Remember not so long ago a great deal of advocacy and outcry over systemic racism culminated in voter backlash that endorsed The Paseo over MLK Blvd. Heck, even Mayor Quinton Lucas was forced to double back and rethink his sponsorship of the FAILED rename ordinance.
Similarly . . .
- Despite brash statements in support of Black Lives Matter, council dude Eric Bunch now backs away from his protest support and isn't willing to stick his neck out for KCPD local control.
- The Mayor was an outspoken advocate for the BLM movement but community outcry asking him to back up his rhetoric has kept him mostly silent on social justice issues for almost a week.
- And again, it doesn't look like the KCPD Chief is going to resign any time soon given that he has the votes from the commish to keep his job.
And so, given all of these facts along with continued protest that doesn't seem very interested in a local legislative agenda . . .
HAVE CONSTANT KANSAS CITY DEMONSTRATIONS BACKFIRED?!?
Even worse, allegations of violence at many protests have sparked a few pro-police demonstrations across the metro and push back against many of the progressive goals for campaign 2020 election season.
And so we ask readers if the trending demonstrations have now lost focus and no longer have achievable political goals at the local level.
You decide . . .
