Kansas City Faith Blogger Considers Waning Influence Of Black Churches & Rise Of BLM

The former Kansas City newsman offers his insight as an outsider, suburbanite Brooksider and constant faith community critic. To be fair, there's some references to better resources in his post:

Are black churches still leading in civil rights?

Any Americans familiar with the Civil Rights Movement know that the historically black church provided much of the leadership for it. The best and most famous example is the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. And when King was...

  1. When the "Black Church" consists of the kinds of revs KCMO mostly has, it's not surprising that the larger black community doesn't pay any attention to them.
They're mostly living in the 1960's, making believe that society is still the same, trying to intimidate electeds and the public generally on such ridiculous issues as renaming streets, and generally looking out for themselves regardless of the negative impact on their communities.
The East Patrol HQ fiasco comes immediately to mind.
If BLM is the "future" for the civil rights "movement", don't look for any progress in attitudes changing.
Making demands, rioting, looting, arson, destruction of public and private property, and revisionist history isn't likely to recruit regular folks to the "cause" and the minimal impact of BLM locally and the infighting among self-important and self-appointed "leaders" in the group is already causing it to disintegrate.
Meanwhile the poor 'ole NAACP, SCLC, and Urban League have made themselves more irrelevant than ever.
What passes for leadership in the black community is responsible for the conditions of regular folks on the east side.
And all these "organizations", nonprofits, marchers, and outright grifters aren't doing anything other than making things worse.

  2. If the Black church behaved as it does now back in 1960, there would be just cause for the attacks they endured but I don’t believe that’s the case. Today’s Black church is full of hate, self-serving prophecy and is mostly a tax-free cash hustle. The people who still follow these churches are involved in the mayhem that keeps urban ghettos impoverished and economically disadvantaged. The Black church is a cancer - that final nail in the coffin. People know Jesus will not cure you of any disease, won’t raise you from the dead, wont feed 5,000 hungry souls with a loaf of bread... and certainly won’t save you from racists attacks and lynchings. The Black church has lost their course chasing tax-payer cash and political influence. It’s not 1950 anymore. There won’t be another Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.... not ever. It’s pressing to find a Malcom X or Marcus Garvey, type. It’s a new day and faith, the Black church and true freedom fighters are all now Instagram and media whores searching for the next get rich quick scheme or copycat idea.

And I agree, Johnny Miles/Morningstar and East Patrol fiasco helped move the needle into oblivion for the Black church in Kansas City; along with the Vernon Howards, Mark Tolbert and the Save the Paseo nonsense.

WHITE PEOPLE PSA: BLACK CHURCHS DO NOT REPRESENT THE INTEREST OF BLACK PEOPLE. They represent their mutherfucking selves and they want your money and sympathy so they can get your money. Black church leaders are NOT our leaders of anything including faith. Todays’ civil rights is about money not GOD.

  3. Tammeus is conflating two wildly different things. He's confused...as usual.

His lead question is: Are black churches still leading in civil rights?

After briefly giving the obligatory nod to the Civil Rights Movement and Dr. MLK Jr., he then jarringly shifts to the separate topic of Black Lives Matter. What?

As anyone who has perused their website knows, BLM is clearly an anti-Christian (or anti-religion in general) organization. Hyper-focused upon Socialist/Marxist ideals and a promotion of the LGBTQZ agenda, BLM is in a distinct universe far from the one where the American black church exists.

Tammeus' post is based on a false premise, and thus should be discarded.

    1. I wonder if Tammeus is not an atheist collaborator? He certainly gave free reign to atheists threatening violence. In Mo that is now a Class E Felony.

  5. Did it ever occur to you "God people" that ever since you were crapping in your diapers, someone, usually your parents, were grabbing your arm and hauling you off somewhere to hear some preacher, priest, rabbi, imam fill you with nonsense about an invisible sky man, before you ever had a chance to REASON for yourselves?

Why did they do that? Because that's what they experienced.

You did not LEARN about God! You were (are still being) TOLD YOU HAD TO BELIEVE IN the sky man's existence.

Have a little courage and take a minute to consider that. Look around and see if you really perceive EVIDENCE of an invisible, compassionate, all powerful being who really cares and thinks about YOU as an individual.

Don't start quoting bible versus written by folks who had no idea about the immensity of the universe, and mostly thought the Earth was flat and the sun revolved around it and, at the speed of light, (around 186,500 mph) it would take about 100,000 years JUST TO CROSS OUR MILKYWAY GALAXY (among millions or billions of other galaxies). Instead THINK. That is NOT A SIN.

  6. 8:58 and whomever else. Reread your post and exclude the word "black" and see if the meaning is still the same.

After excluding "black", I don't see racial prejudice being written though I do see plenty of pent up anger. Take it easy.

  7. 10:33 You may be right, you may be wrong. You're entitled to your opinion. Every design has a designer. You are clearly a designed organism. I don't think lightning striking a pile of horse dung created the intricate design of your eyes, heart and other parts of you, but maybe it did. Amen.
