New KCI was a scam, is a scam and will always be a scam. KC voters were bamboozled.

  4. Maybe we should recall the airport.
    At least scale it back.
Where is Chastain when we need him?
How about a petition that forces 75% local construction?

  5. ^^ You want to depend on a building that was 75% done by J. E. Dunn?

  6. That was the finest airport in the Midwest before Kansas City bureaucrats and minority businesses ruined it. They had to fix something that wasn't broken. Those of us who used the airport for years knew it was better than almost any other airport in the area, especially the atrocious airports in Chicago, St. Louis, Dallas, and others.

  7. That new airport is going to bee nice (and empty) ain't it? SUCKERS!

  8. 856, you're right.

Frequent flyers knew how good KCI was.

Then, the city cleverly let it run down to create demand for a new airport.

Who knows what is going to happen now. It seems doubtful that flying demand eill return to prior levels ever or at least not for years.

  9. KCI wasn't broken just neglected as much in Kansas City is anymore. I have flown in and out of that airport since it opened and no other city comes close to being as easy to get in and out of as KCI was outside of maybe Ontario CA.

Okay so it didn't have a lot of food courts and so forth so what. I myself have never ate at any airport and I was delayed once for 9 hours. I don't go to an airport to be wine and dined or to shop. I travel to places to have that kind of fun.

  10. Stop the Airport disaster from getting worse by keeping two remaining terminals.
Modernize, upgrade them and create a trendy "retro vibe."
They can become a tourist destination for the world.

Can easily accommodate our annual 25 million tourists, who are not coming out of fear of Killa City's reputation.

  12. Appreciate the continued reporting on the corruption at KCI package 7A. Yes Cat Reid is correct, this is similar to the corruption when CWC / Edgemoore was first approved, and strings being pulled by same corrupt organization the Heavy Contractors Association run by crooked Bridgette Williams. They pay more money to council and other orgs to contract steer than anyone would imagine.

  13. Looks like Ideker got too many participation trophies growing up. Screaming like a petulant child until you get your way may have worked on this bid, but it doesn't erase the fact Ideker had to pay off city council to get the job. Thats the most embarrassing thing. I feel sorry for them.

  14. Michael Mahoney is spot on, this isn't back door corruption at KCI its Front Porch in your face corruption that started with the staged press conference on city hall steps using political muscle and pay offs.

    ReplyDelete
  15. does anyone realize that Ideker who worked behind the Heavies (where Paul Ideker controls the money as Board treasurer along with Bill Clarkson) has $11M in work at KCI up for approval by the city council TIO Committee this week on Wednesday. Ideker the sole bidder on both contracts. any chance they lowered their price on KCI Package 7A in return for more contracts from KCI. Funny how their batch plant has been allowed for years to stay erected on KCI property and bid after bid either they are the sole bidder or they lose, get the Heavies to appeal, numbers are now public, then he comes back in and wins. Contract steering, yes. Corruption, political pay off, yes. sound like out of town St. Joe mafia, yes.

  16. KCI corruption especially the Package 7A discussed in this interview needs to be investigated - as a KCMO resident I didn't cast a vote for corruption

  17. City council making decisions on bids is ridiculous. Thats why Edgemoor and CWC is there. Thats their job. It just got pushed to city council because that is where the heavies knew they could bribe people.
City council needs to take some responsibility for their actions. Waving a wand around to make everyone pay more for a more expensive contractor while you line your pockets with heavys money is an embarrassment to Kansas City, and that includes Lucas.

  18. That decision completely destroyed the point of the M/WBE program. If Philip Yelder is going to certify WBE companies like G2 and then back out once someone has stuffed some money in his pocket, it is time for him to go. The rich get richer. Lucas and his trash council are completely corrupt.

  19. RE the KCI story City Council should be ashamed this corruption is not only happening on their watch - two members CW Shields and CM O'Neill are leading the corruption with Bridgette Williams. Anyone looked into ads Ideker has paid Councilman Kevin O'Neill's newspaper? I'm not lawyer, but isn't that reason for CM O'Neill to recuse himself? and what CW Katheryn Shields? Her husband being paid as a legal consultant by the Heavy Contractors Association. Sounds like a conflict to me. Someone should look a little harder on this corrupt contract steering.

  20. Didnt the mayor steer the contract and final vote to Ideker, Clarkson and the Heavies on the rebid??? how is this not being investigated?

    ReplyDelete
  21. re KCI. ESCO needs to come back and fight this!

  22. @ 8:56 - Well these people must have learned their degree from"The City of Lenexa University". In this town we have more roundabouts and yellow flashing arrows than anywhere else in the USA, all because of one idiot and his spineless boss. This guy has taken an intersection and is going to cause an accident just because he cooked up a problem that never existed. His bosses and the way-too-long-term Mayor support him one thousand percent. They refuse to take any citizen concern seriously and will listen and say "sorry we've decided already". Very secretive. Six of eight council people are deep in the mayors pocket too as they are appointed first then win election because they are incumbent, all close friends of the mayor. KCMO isn't the only community with mayor problems.
