TKC TOLD YOU SO!!! KANSAS CITY COALITION AGAINST PREZ TRUMP FEDERAL CRACKDOWN ESCALATES THREAT OF MORE PROTEST VIOLENCE!!!

An angry letter distributed to progressive media today confirms what we talked about early this morning . . .

KANSAS CITY RISKS MORE VIOLENT PROTESTS AS LEADERS UNITE TO OPPOSE FEDERAL COOPERATION WITH KCPD!!!

Never mind that these political power moves quickly & conveniently omit much reference to the local murder count impacting urban communities. But I digress . . .

The proclamation was a result of a collab from Black Rainbow, One Struggle KC, NAACP Kansas City, SCLC Greater Kansas City Chapter, Urban League of Greater Kansas City, KC Tenants, Sunrise Movement Kansas City, and SURJ . . .

Check the intro

"Dear Mayor Quinton Lucas and affiliated parties,

"By inviting federal agents into our city, you have opened the door to undue civilian terror, functional martial law, and the obstruction of basic civil liberties. Now, the people of Chicago and Albuquerque face the same state-sanctioned terrorism you let into Kansas City. This is unacceptable. We have demands for immediate change.

"Your hypocrisy is documented. After welcoming hundreds of federal agents into our city, you signed on to a letter with other mayors condemning a federal presence. Your name on a letter means nothing when you continue to enable the occupation of our city. Our people—your constituents—are suffering the consequences . . . "

It goes on from there and, again, the militant tone, strident words and urgent demands set the stage for future conflict.

Again, it's also worth noting that the feds & KCPD have consistently attempted to explain that feds aren't doing patrols and there won't be federal law enforcement "troops" in Kansas City. Obviously, those assurances haven't been accepted by local leadership.

More to the point . . .

DESPITE AN ANGRY WARNING LETTER, SO FAR THERE HASN'T BEEN ANY LOCAL LEADERSHIP TO MEDIATE THE DISPUTE!!!

Credit where it's due . . .

The coalition is absolutely correct to target the Mayor for bouncing back and forth betwixt law enforcement & activists. Moreover, this authoritative statement seems to negate any chance of city hall stepping up to avoid violence.

Angry Letter Unity

Multiple KC organizations denounce 'Operation Legend'; demand Lucas reject federal occupation

In a major display of unity, Black Rainbow, One Struggle KC, NAACP Kansas City, SCLC Greater Kansas City Chapter, Urban League of Greater Kansas City, KC Tenants, Sunrise Movement Kansas City, and SURJ came together to denounce Mayor Quinton Lucas's complicity with President Donald Trump's Operation Legend.

AOC Protects Protesters

AOC House Amendment Would Curtail Protest Crackdown

Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Ted Lieu of California are proposing an amendment this week that would prohibit funds from being used to send federal agents into American cities as part of Operation Legend or Operation Relentless Pursuit: Justice Department initiatives that have led brutal crackdowns on protesters in cities like Portland, Oregon.

Urban Leaders United Against Feds In Kansas City

As Operation Legend Gains International Attention, Civil Rights Groups Call On Kansas City Mayor To Reject Federal Agents

A coalition of civil rights organizations is calling on Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas to formally reject the presence of federal agents in the city after 200 agents arrived last week as part of Operation LeGend, an initiative aimed at tackling violent crime.

Civil Unrest Blame Game

Trump's Effort to Provoke Violence Is Working

Meanwhile, the anger is spreading elsewhere. Activists in other cities have returned to the streets in large numbers, precipitating new clashes with law enforcement, especially in big West Coast cities. At the same time, the Trump administration is promising to deploy thousands of federal agents (as many as 75,000, the president claims) to other cities.

  4. Okay, federal law enforcement has already said they're not doing patrols and they won't be in uniform in Kansas City. This letter is basically just complaining about what they're seeing on TV and not the reality of the situation.

  5. And once again the dim witted mayor of kc is doing nothing to control it so therefore he is complicit like all the other dimwit mayors for the death and destruction of their own cities. They have blood on their hands and don’t care how much it costs or how many get injured or die.

    Their silence is deadly.

  11. Democratic Party = the most dishonest, out-of-control lawless political party in U.S. history. If they don't like your views, they will burn down and destroy all of your property, get you fired, get consumers to boycott your products/services, take your guns, and stop your free speech as much as they possibly can through their friends at Twitter, Google and Facebook.

  12. You could add up all those "organizations" that have signed on to this silliness and come up with a big ZERO that they've ever accomplished.
Just a bunch of self-appointed "leaders" and useful idiot followers looking for the next concocted "issue" to enable them to try to get some TV face time, selfies, and publicity.
The public has figured this out quite a while ago, so only the pathetic local media is there to watch the antics, hope for a confrontation, and "report" on the excitement.
And it's costing KCMO taxpayers a bundle in police overtime and equipment damage.
Too bad there's such laughable "leadership" in KCMO.
The laughingstock of the region and the entire country.
    Sad.

Personally, I welcome the presence of Federal agents. They can start by locking down city hall and not letting anyone working there screw anything else up in the city. They can take over Arrowhead Stadium (SO politically incorrect) and hold QBall, city council, and all protesters under arrest there, and let the true leader of Kansas City, Councilwoman Theresa Loar, run this city right. I have it on good authority Federal agents plan on walling off the area of Kansas City south of the river and ceding it to Grandview, Lees Summit, Blue Springs, and Independence. That property, their residents, and infrastructure is now their problem and no longer affiliated with Kansas City. Only after these acts will Kansas City be saved. The rich Kansas City residents north of the river will save Kansas City, unless they move to Liberty and Kearney.

  28. FreeKC: "The people have a right to protest and dicate terms to elected officals."

Yes, the people have the right to protest PEACEFULLY. What they don't have is the right to destroy other people's property or assault anyone. In fact, by engaging in this behavior, their message is overshadowed and it's turning people away from them.

And, as for dictating terms to elected officials, they have the right to free speech. But they shouldn't pretend to speak for all of "the people". In a free society, which we pretend to live in, there are always differing opinions that need to be heard. We shouldn't stifle those, but we also shouldn't suppose that our opinion somehow means more than someone else's. Making demands of city officials, under the threat of more violence, is akin to a child throwing a temper tantrum because they don't get their way. There are right ways of making change and wrong ways, and this whole violent protest thing is the WRONG WAY.
