TKC MUST SEE!!! KANSAS CITY POLICE UNION THREATENS TO STOP PROTECTING PARADES AND CLOSED ROAD EVENTS AFTER PLAZA PROTEST AMNESTY!!!

Off-duty cops hired by local biz have helped keep Kansas City events safe for years.

However, the recent move to grant amnesty to protesters on The Plaza and more pending legislation to protect political demonstrations has sparked a response from a local law enforcement union.

To wit and with thanks to KICK-ASS TKC READERS who sent this item our way . . .

KANSAS CITY POLICE OPTING OUT OF PROTECTING PARADES AND OTHER EVENTS THREATENS TO SHUT DOWN HUNDREDS OF DESPERATELY NEEDED LOCAL PARTIES IN 2020 & BEYOND!!!

Police often volunteer or donate their time and they're priced at a rate far lower than private security. Moreover, police protecting events & parades is a civic tradition that builds relationships and trust betwixt officers, community and local leaders.

In practical terms, police protecting parades and events simply have more authority. Think back to how many countless times we've heard of a tragic mishap at a club or gathering despite pricey private security.

Now, in a move to protect themselves from liability and flex against local political leaders . . . We take a glimpse at local law enforcement pushing back.

Checkit:

Here's link proof and the full statement from the Kansas City FOP Lodge #99 about the opt-out:

Brothers and sisters,

In its rush to exonerate “peaceful protestors” the city has now left officers with no way to control pedestrian traffic on parade routes, races on closed roads or a dozen other events. They changed 70-73 and now created a substantial issue.

Please do not make any attempt to enforce pedestrian traffic in any way on closed roads. We don’t have the authority anymore and any attempt to keep people out of parades and races may put members in a position to receive substantiated complaints for keeping roadways clear without the authority to do so.

In order to keep from being placed in a difficult position by this change we should not work any off-duty at any event where this issue may become problematic.

Be safe
#############

The 70-73 referred to by the police union concerns the KCMO municipal code . . .

Sec. 70-73. - Obedience to police and fire department officers.

"No person shall willfully fail or refuse to comply with any lawful order or direction of any police officer, parking control officer, firefighter or uniformed adult school crossing guard with authority to direct, control or regulate traffic."

After the Plaza hot mess, Councilman Brandon Ellington was the first to take on 70-73.

But, let's not overlook Council Dude Bunch wanting to protect protesters on public streets . . .

Still, the Plaza protester amnesty set the stage for this hot mess that might leave local groups without the ability to have a safe, local event.

And so, this response isn't a "Blue Flu" but simply a reminder of how KCPD is a part of local life and not just a resource to be managed by politicos.

Developing . . .

    1. ^^^ Maybe, maybe not. What sucks is that this isn't going to hurt the rich or corporations that can afford private security. This will make it impossible to have small neighborhood events that can only afford to hire a couple of cops for a few hours.

As usual, the neighborhoods are paying the price for this fight between the mayor, the council, activists and the police.

    2. ^^^ Don't be too afraid.

This is a good time to make this threat because there aren't a lot of events to police right now. I think this social media post should remind our council members that they're not dictators and the live in a city where we all depend on one in some small way.

That's a nice thought but I wouldn't dare depend on any of these folks. They're all looking out for themselves first. It's not a crime for you to do the same.

It appears the boy blunder is throwing kc under the bus for his liberal agenda experiment.

But by all means, keep it up boy blunder, the city is doing so well since you and sLIE ran the place. WINNING AMIRIGHT! HAHAHAHAHA!

  5. As a retired officer I can tell you officers seldom if ever work off duty gigs for free. The current rate is between $42 and $45 per hour. A security officer is lucky to get $13/hour. Their company will charge $25 to $35 per hour to the customer.

    ReplyDelete
  6. ^^^ Interesting.

But those aren't KCMO rates, suburban or rural. Things are way more expensive inside city limits.

  7. I think police might fight that they're "boycott" will be welcomed. People are always surprised when they learn that life goes on without them.

I support police but this seems like pouting.

  12. I don’t blame them one bit after the Council undermined the whole force with this progressive decision. These men and women essentially exposed their personal safety, which they do every day while wearing the uniform, for no reason as the council wiped the slate clean on the arrested ones. The ones that were arrested were not protestors but thugs or ones ignoring the police in their attempt to do their jobs. Shame on the City for giving in to the threats of these THUGS. Let the Police do their job, maybe it’s the Council that needs to be rethought and not the Police.

Every cop should think of his own family first, and get out of Kansas City. They’ve abandoned you, and you owe them nothing

  22. 8:09, all true, but there is that pension they have worked towards, and the need to make a living to support their family..not every cop can work for mission hills PD.

    1. Yes it’s a big decision. This is where the older cops tell the younger ones to not make the mistake of making their career in Kansas City. If they are still young enough to find another place to go, they should do so
I moved out of KC twenty years ago and my life has been all peace and tranquility ever since.

  23. Well at the Chiefs parade, they let a car that could have been loaded with explosives enter the parade route and drive down 20 blocks before being stopped. Luckily the dude was just a crackhead. It could have very well been a suicide bomber and KCPD standing around would have been blown up as well.

  25. @8:07am
First, the police are REQUIRED by KCMO ordinance whenever a parade, run, or event crosses or takes place on public streets. That's a simple common sense safety measure and if the electeds don't want that to be a requirement, they should repeal that ordinance.
And if the elected "leaders" in KCMO think that the majority of the residents want them to cuddle with the kiddie corps rioters, marchers, demanders, who have long passed any correlation between their activities and what took place in Minneapolis, they're sadly mistaken.
Ironically, the people who count most on the police are the good hard-working folks who are trying to live regular lives in the most crime-stressed parts of the city.
Lucas and members of the clowncil have chosen the losing side.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Rather then off leash doggy play areas we should be asking the city for shooting practice ranges in our neighborhood parks.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's really very simple. People who break the law hate people who enforce the law. Charles Manson, Ted Bundy and the Carr brothers in Wichita all hated the police.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yeah, I hired a cop to work security at a private event. I went through the proper channels downtown and after the event the cop gave me his business card and told me to call him directly next time. Said if I paid him in cash we wouldn't have to mess with taxes and that kind of stuff. Said if he couldn't do it, he'd have one of his friends that would be available.

  44. Just to boil this down...the changes to the ordinance prohibit cops from keeping people out of the street if the road is closed to cars. So if a parade or run is a closed route then anyone can get in the street on foot and interfere with the event. Think of the Chiefs parade with no barricades at all for people, or a marathon runner blocked by a group in the street. This was a knee jerk revision of the ordinance without thinking big picture. The police union is right to tell members not to work an event where they cannot stop people from stopping the event. I wonder how many runs will move, more money leaving the city. Well done council, you listened to the children and now are acting like them as well.

  50. Blue Flue is NOT a thing. Police never show up for anything unless you’re White. In our community 9-1-1 was always a joke in this town. Late 9-1-1 wears the late crown. There, now there have real accolades.... just none the can be proud of.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I hope the police union does fight the e tax. They are used as pawns to get it passed every time. Stand up and call bullshit. Force the city to find a more fair way to pay for their bullshit tax breaks. Lucas and the council have lost their mind this time. This city isn’t a liberal city, no matter what you think. They will vote to support the police, and defund KC.

If the voters have to choose between council and police we will pick police. Sorry Quinton
