TKC MUST READ!!! FORMER KANSAS CITY STAR NEWSMAN FINALLY CANCELS USELESS DEAD-TREE SUBSCRIPTION!!!

For hottie Lais, the newspaper is mostly just a wonderful prop whilst others have dedicated their entire careers to it . . .

Accordingly and whilst acknowledging that we don't always agree with this local blogger but respect his opinion on matters of newsprint . . .

SHOCK!!! KANSAS CITY BLOGGER AND FORMER NEWSMAN JIMMYC SHARES HIS REASONS FOR DUMPING THE DEAD-TREE EDITION OF THE KANSAS CITY STAR!!!

Given that he dedicated decades of his life to the institution, his words merit consideration:

After more than 50 years as a subscriber, I’m finished with The Star’s print edition

Quote:

Here are the three reasons I decided to cancel . . .

1) The print product is not timely and not very good.

2) Ownership of The Star and the other McClatchy papers will soon transfer to a New Jersey-based hedge fund, and I don’t want to give a hedge fund any more money than absolutely necessary.

3) The customer service people at The Star, or maybe McClatchy, played a dirty trick on me: They raised my print subscription rate from $22.80 a month to $54.80 without notice.

And so . . .

If somebody who knows this paper better than anyone is opting out . . . His decision should resonate with readers paying for dead-tree abuse. Moreover, The Star without the print edition is mostly just another blog with less local content than other news outlets in Kansas City.

You decide . . .

  1. We finally agree on something.
Jimmy hates paying the money for a crappy product.

Nothing the Star does makes sense. A bunch of silly old white men using some people
Of color while charging money they know minorities can’t afford in the inner city.

And 3 out of 4 news stations have better news and video. And it’s free.

Liberals had no successful succession plan. From the top down.

    Conservative silent boycotting worked perfect.

  2. it does seem like the local newscasts stick more to the facts and are not bad.

  6. Better News is that Orca Winfrey's O magazine is finished and will not be published after the December issue. Orca is a failure when not protected. But one hell of a fat whale spokes person for fat people not losing weight while on weight watchers. Keep up the great work fatty !

  7. Reason #4:

It is a Communist rag devoted to the overthrow of The U.S.A.

  8. The metro's full of bitter fired former KC Star staffers who have never gotten over the fact that no one really cares about their opinions after they no longer have the platform and "credibility" the paper gave them.
And, to be fair, the Star was a much better product before experienced reporters who knew local issues and players and where the bodies were buried were all canned and replaced by 20-something year old recent J-school graduates who don't know the difference between Blue Springs and Blue Valley.
Not to mention the laughable editorial board who imagines themselves an outpost of the woke New York Times and thinks the metro wants to be Brooklyn.
    Time moves on.
Folks like Jimmy C should just hope that their pensions don't disappear with the clever financial manipulations by the new owner.
Somehow you have to bet these guys are in it for the money, not the news product.

  9. The Star puts out a terrible product and expects to be paid a lot for it. It probably never occurred to them that its business plan is dooming them to failure and extinction. There's nothing the new owner hedge fund can do to make the Star worse, so let it rip.
