SHOCK!!! OVERLAND PARK SHUTS DOWN BLACK LIVES MATTER PROTEST!!!
Whilst protesters have been allowed a great deal of leeway in Kansas City, MO . . . Last night in suburban Overland Park, Kansas their experience was far different.
To wit . . .
POLICE BROKE UP LAST NIGHT DEMONSTRATIONS IN OVERLAND PARK AS NEIGHBORS DECRIED THE DISTURBANCE!!!
Social media testimony from a witness . . .
"At Overland Park Justice Center with protesters. Earlier I saw at least four protesters arrested by police in Overland Park, where they were protesting racism and police violence. Police told them they couldn’t walk in the street of the neighborhood they were protesting in . . ."
Lawyer activist Stacy Shaw was briefly detained but released about an hour later.
At most there were 30-40 protesters . . . They marched down College Blvd outside JCCC & into a neighborhood.
Four protesters were arrested and there was a brief overnight sit-in at the Overland Park Justice Center.
In fairness, a public statement from one of the group's involved with the protest:
"The occupation of Kansas City rears it’s ugly head tonight terrorizing organizers in Overland Park! 50 police swarmed on the small group refusing to identify themselves or their badge numbers, on orders from the police chief! They rushed the arrested to a “special” judge held just to deter the action and this movement. Police even blocked attorneys and bailers at the door in order to deny organizers their right to due process. Local leaders this is not the way! Those people are out here risking their lives and freedom to beg you to do the right thing and you let the Dog off the leash! We have every right to fight for our freedom!"
By contrast, what we're noticed via social media is a dearth of support for the movement from suburban neighbors and the protesters dwindling number of demonstrators as the night wore on . . . Despite enthusiasm and changing to "defund" the police at the outset of the adventure.
