Tech consequences confront geeks, geniuses and all of the other middle-class locals who enjoy buying fancy gear in a posh setting instead suffering the indignity of Office Depot haggling over castaway scraps at the back of a van.

Apple stores in KC metro close temporarily

Apple said its stores on the Country Club Plaza and in Leawood will close temporarily because of pandemic."We look forward to resuming full operations as soon as it’s safe to do so. We’re currently open for pickup of existing online orders and previously scheduled in-store Genius Support appointments made through Thursday, July 16," according to a message posted websites for both stores.

  1. The Chinese owned and operated Apple should be eliminated from the face of the earth

  3. They shutdown all the slave labor made products from communist China ( also known for giving us the Kung fu flu ) and the little hipsters, left wing pinkos and david bowie gender types are pissing their pants.

  7. Chicom spite. That is all it is. Too bad that Jobs did not outsource just production to China, but also culture.

  8. The iphone equals hipster level of thinking is reserved for only the most skidmarked of CHUDS, of which this town is chock full.

I did enjoy the David Bowie reference however.

  9. Apple and the other Silicon Valley companies need to put their money where their mouths are and move all manufacturing out of China and other foreign locations to the poorest minority neighborhoods of America -- east of Troost in KC, South Side of Chicago, etc. If they really want to be as "woke" about racism as they say they want to, this is the right thing to do. Anything else is just lip service about trying to help minorities.

  10. ^^^^Look at all these assholes pounding out their anti-China/built in China rhetoric on a......Chinese made phone or pc. Carry on with your brave stance! I salute you all.

  12. Not sure why the stores are closing. The Plaza shut down due to the riots and out of control theft. People would run in an steal phones all the time and the company would not persecute.

At the Leawood store, service was done by appointment. Sales were walk-up. Either way, temps were taken and you had to wear a mask and everyone was social distancing.

I suspect the company is using Covid as more of a reason to shutter some of its stores. People without jobs cant afford $1200 phones.

  13. 9:25 - what is the point then? I wasn't necessarily directing my comment at 8:54, by the way, but those comments that preceded. People act is if the only thing made in China are iPhones. American households are littered with stuff from China because it's cheap. When you want to pay $20 for a toilet brush vs. $2, let me know. And when you want to sacrifice 401k gains because the company, who's stock you own decides to take a stand against manufacturing in China and sacrifice margins impacting profitability, I'd love to hear that too.

Fact is, there's no easy solution to the "China problem".

  14. My phone and my car is made in Korea!!! And I love it!

  15. Mean while we all post using devices made in china - regardless of your operating system - on a network mostly made of Chinese materials and labor. Apple isn't the problem we are.

  16. There are many other places where low-cost labor can be attained. China isn't the only country with that attribute. Instead of Apple giving millions to minority groups, they should use that money to build plants in minority areas and hire those people. Spend that money in a smarter way. The cost of the phone doesn't have to rise if millions are redirected from one cost center to labor costs. Do you want to help minorities get on equal footing with jobs or do you want to be a complete profit slut? Companies need to put up or shut up.
