Overland Park explains why police chief suspended officers' ID requirement at protest

As Overland Park police arrested four protesters Friday evening during an event calling for an end to police violence and racism, the protest's organizer noticed officers were not wearing identification badges. He was concerned. According to the Overland Park Police Department's policy, officers are required to wear name plates and badge numbers as part of their uniform, said city spokeswoman Meg Ralph.

  1. It's a new world, officers families and homes are no longer off limits to these radicals. They just can't stand someone not following the rules. Pot and kettle?

  2. How about law enforcement officers just have a number on their uniforms. A-000 B-0000 C-000 and such. Then these so called peaceful demonstrators can turn that number over to their atty who if that have already been charged with anything will be listed in the charges anyway and the atty will have such info.

These protesters only want that info to harass officers. How about the protesters be required to all carry signs with their name and a state ID number on it?

  3. I am fine with officers being anonymous given the dirty pool being played by the communist children.

  4. Agree with Super Dave. In my opinion there is some mix of terrorism to varing degrees within these peaceful protests, one can no longer assume everyone is a fine upstanding citizen with only good intentions. This is easily seen by all except the media and the political knee benders. Provocation is the game being played to get an edited video response to escalate into officer complaints and harassment.

  5. In any other social interaction you would get your ass kicked or worse for the much less than the abuse directed at these officers dealt by these co called peaceful protesters. The FN media knows this but is guilty of omission so as not to offended the perpetrators and their movement. Apparently channel 5 tripped over the truth prompting some lost love from the tantrum throwers in OP.

  6. These “ protestors” need to get their asses kicked. Would be nice to see one of them just get the shit pounded out of it, him, or her. Charge them a $20 cover fee to get into the burbs. First one who destroys or incites violence gets tied to a pissing poll, then the rest of us have fun. Hell, charge a cover to watch the POS get abused.

  7. I would favor mandating name tags.... on EVERYONE.

Attention Protestors: If you're peaceful, then what would be your concern? Just wear a name tag. Preferably with your address and phone number to prove you're committed to being peaceful.

Showing up without a name tag? Fair game.
