Local groups want more KCI work for minority businesses

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) - Edgemoor is the developer for the new KCI terminal. It's recommending a Colorado-based company for concrete work. Kansas City subcontractors say the company doesn't have their interests in mind. Since the city started tearing down the old terminal, questions of whether or not Kansas City workers are benefiting from the billion-dollar project have loomed.

  1. What they want is to be paid to keep them quiet, not one minority business owner in kc has the equipment or manpower to do a job that big. They should stick to screwing the taxpayers over for the sidewalks that they can barely do. It takes them six months to go a block.

This is the one good thing about this being a private job, they can’t stiff arm their way to free money.

  2. We know that Teresa Loar and 3rd District Council lady don’t get along. I think both council people are out of order. Plus, Patsy Klein over the East Patrol project gave contracts to his White friends and they’ve got their hands out again. It’s a total shit show.

  3. Let's put some of these unemployed people to work out there sweeping up or something instead of paying them $600 a week to lay around and smoke weed.

  4. well 10:06 then the next best option is a locally owned firm with local employees.

12:40 that is probably most of the work local minority and women firms have gotten, lots o'sweeping.

  5. Funny how people want something that their special interest community has not spent years achieving. Should have spent more time in school, learning trades and investing Escalade money in businesses to build them up. Having obtained more than the average joe , pedro or Xavier, I also spent more time learning a trade, education, investing in tools and equipment. Less time trying to learn to rap and hustle.

  6. Minority businesses can compete the same way anyone else can, to say local groups want more work for minority businesses is to say " we are racist." Plenty of minority businesses have jobs and are free to bid any job they are equipped to handle. Why not leave racism out of this and move on to the present and hire the best bidder otherwise there is going to be more trouble. As a matter of fact the truth is, a lot of work is done by minority business.
