Kelly's Westport Inn Apologizes For Slave Owners Who Owned The Historic Kansas City Building More Than A Century Ago

Smashed windows over the weekend and a burned mini-wagon elicited this admission of guilt even though the the building wasn't handed down over generations . . . In fact, the Irish hooligans who own it now have benefited from their immigrant granddaddy's hard work.

A snippit of their statement . . .

"For the past 150+ years the various businesses and operators at 500 Westport Road have had no affiliation with slavery. We want to be transparent about our building's history without celebrating the past atrocities that occurred here. We are eager to learn more about the best way to do this. We have started by covering a plaque hung inside Kelly's that was dedicated to Albert Boone . . . Our father and grandfather, Randal Kelly, came to the US from Ireland in 1926 in search of a better life. In 1947, Randal began bartending at the building. He called this Irish Pub “the poor man’s playground” where people of all walks could gather.

Then and always, Kelly’s is committed to honoring the Irish phrase posted above our door: Failte – "Welcome.” And that goes for everyone."

The owners of the bar put out a statement, sharing a desire to to shine the bright lights on systemic racism and on the racial injustices that occurred in or near the building.

  1. Welcome to the new normal. You get your windows smashed in and you have to apologize.

  2. 413 nailed it. We are sliding from citizen protest to mob coercion. From free speech to lip service or else. Even some on the left are arguing against the Woke Speech Police.

  4. So sick of this stupidity. Plenty of other minorities (Irish, Asians, Jews and Hispanics to name a few) have faced adversity in the US, but all have proven to rise above it without the need for domestic terror. Today everyone has more choices than ever before. If you hate the US, there are many other places to move. Find one that meets your expectations and be happy there.

  5. The owners should not apologize to the BLM crowd (the organization) forever more to be known as "THE MOB". They own a building. So you now expect any one that owns a building formerly, like over 100 years ago, that owned a slave or employed a black maid or butler, to apologize too?
Stand up to these bullies. There are laws against bullies and we need to start enforcing them. And to all the little pretty white girls, you're being played and will end up living with some black guy without a job. Tell me when that happens who is the slave?

  7. Why apologize ? Ever hear an apology for everything/anything a minority does and where they do it 100 years prior? You could not go into a block in the KC Metro where a MINORITY didn't kill someone, Many are Racist attacks committed against non blacks. None are excused.

  9. Apologize for what?

I always knew in the end business owners in KC are a bunch of pussies and for sure in Westport. None of them have the balls to stand up lock n load and protect their business.

  16. Yes, its true, the Kellys owner's wive Jane Yanofsky is Playboy material. Is Playboy even in business anymore? Anyway she is so beautiful. But then why would a rich guy marry a woman who wasn't? Wealth has its rewards!
