KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Residents who most need police services would be the ones most affected by budget cuts to the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department, according to Chief Rick Smith. Not a problem. They can just move in with the mayor.

  2. It’s not that bad. Early retirements and hiring freeze cover a major portion. Eliminate travel to out of state training and academies. Take away take home cars for officers not on call for emergency response. No pay raises.

No pay raises? Apparently you don't know what they go through each day and you say no pay raises. Get off your ass and police the streets yourself. MORON

  4. ^^^^1 in 4 Americans are out of work right now. Jobs have been lost that may never come back. No pay raise is better than no job. Every budget has to be cut. Every area has to see a reduction. Tax revenue and property taxes have been greatly reduced since COVID. If not raises, what then?

  5. We are all in this together (unless you are the police). The revenue shortfalls for KCMO will be well in excess of the current numbers, numbers developed based on the 2008 financial crisis by the budget manager that has since departed the city for greener pastures. The budget crisis will require well in excess of the 4.5% currently highlighted. The police and the police union are their own worst enemies. KCMO cannot afford the current police force.

  6. Don’t call the police! Take care of it yourself !

  7. @8:39 defaults on mortgages, evictions and people not having money due to the economy to buy a house will all factor into a reduction in tax revenue from property taxes being received by the city.

  8. @8:41 I'm going to assume you don't live in KC or have had to call the police recently.

    1. You dial 911 and more often than not you receive a message to hold. I've seen this range from 30 seconds to over 6 minutes when I've called.

    2. Then an officer has to be available to send to you and often times zones are completely blacked out for several minutes and even longer at peak times.

    3. The importance of your call has to be weighed with other emergency calls so at times they will tell you it could be four hours before they respond if then.

So you are right. We have to be prepared to do things on our own whether that is stop the bleeding, CPR, or engaging an armed intruder. The current state of police affairs in this city is not what you see on television shows 911 or COPS. So why give them millions and millions without accountability.

  9. I forgot too mention in an earlier comment. The amount of money KCPD spends on their legal department defending police misconduct and the amount of money spent by KCPD in legal settlements is enough to cover most of the budget shortfall if the police would just stop allowing bad apples to be on the street.

How about the Mayor and shitty council forgoing their salaries?

  11. ^^or Boomers forgetting to sit on blogs all day?

  12. the "debated" salary reductions for the mayor and city council wouldn't equal the overtime of one ambulance driver; the one ambulance drive caught sleeping on the overtime shift over and over and over again without consequence. The issue is the police and fire unions. Neither police nor fire have the best interests of KCMO.

  13. The overtime of one fire staff exceeded the salary of the mayor...

The mayor is overpaid by 100%

  15. Its time for cost cutting at KCPD. The Captains and above all make six figures so start there. Sergeants 70,000 to 90,000 a year, how many do we really need? Cars, didn't need to be risked at the Plaza protest when they could have been parked in American Century's underground garage to protect them. Take away the Chief's credit card for meals and other expenses. Outsource the legal department. Eliminate parking control. etc etc etc

  16. Let's cut cradle to grave welfare entitlements instead.

  17. Stop all police activity in the shithole ghetto. That costs more than anything and those people don’t want them there anyway.

  18. Nick the fireman works 6 shifts a day as paramedic. Makes 300K a year because other medics won't work the urban core. That's fine...because the rest of the medics don't want to run 10-12 runs per day in a very hostile environment. If you don't like it...don't complain when the ambulance or fire truck shows up late. Nick will be there counting his hours and cash!

  19. sorry..he works 6 shifts a week.
