Kansas City Star New Money Boss Feared

Newsies love to exaggerate but the reporting on this money move has been deservedly dire . . . Turns out the social justice agenda currently running the so-called paper of record doesn't hold much sway over pure capitalist plays.

Here's donation model news outlet offering their hot take:

With Deal For McClatchy, Kansas City Star Will See Its Fifth Owner In Four Decades

The McClatchy Company, the nation's second largest newspaper chain and the owner of The Kansas City Star, Wichita Eagle, Miami Herald, Charlotte Observer and more than two dozen other daily newspapers, announced on Sunday that Chatham Asset Management had submitted the winning bid for the company at a bankruptcy auction.

  3. I can't imagine a local newspaper in a city the size of Kansas City being more irrelevant than the KC Star.

  4. melchiorre should move in and manage.

all except three editors should be gig workers paid little. gig workers get no benefits of any kind. call them "stringers" to keep it sounding like journalism.

high school and college journalism students should be offered unpaid internships for the privilege of working there.

the three editors should be paid no more than $30,000 plus bonuses only if profits grow.

an equal time or equal editorial column inch rule should be implemented, so that no political stance causes readers to flee.

  5. Chatham should mix up the journalists on their papers in different cities to eliminate the co-dependent pathologies now present locally.

  7. I never read the star til CV. I have to say that they proovided excellent coverage of our city during this period. A daily paper is the hearbeat of a city. If we lose the star, no matter what your opinion is of it, we lose an intergral way to communicate. If you're democrat/republic or independent losing a daily paper leaves you defenseless against those who seek to control our news. I am not a big fan of the kc star. But it is our direct channel to key news. Be careful what you wish for!

  8. If the reporting isn't going to be balanced and is going to be a publication of the DNC, it might as well go bye-bye. There is always the websites of every KC TV station to cover local news. Although those are still jaded by the left, they are a bit more balanced.

"Journalists tend to see them as financial predators focused on short-term profits, with little interest in the idea of journalism as a public trust. Alden Global Capital, a New York-based hedge fund, has become notorious as the face of rapacious newspaper-devouring hedge funds, having acquired newspapers like the Denver Post and cut their reporting staffs to the bone."

NEWSFLASH: People don't tend to buy businesses that are losing money in order to lose more money. People aren't going to buy a newspaper that reads like DNC propaganda. If they would, it would have happened long before now. I know this sounds simple and too stupid to work but try reporting news using things like facts. Don't spin it with your opinion. Everybody in this town already knows what yours is. Opinions are like assholes. The KC Scar would be much better off minus a whole lot of assholes.
