'Roosevelt Lyons, KC Parks Deputy Director of Operations, said: “Watts Mill, like a lot of our parks, is seeing a pretty big influx of people experiencing homelessness. That’s due to COVID."'

Bullshit. The problem started the day QuikTrip opened in front of the hospital. Panhandlers immediately started harassing customers there and eventually spread out onto State Line from 103rd to the north and south all the way to the interstate exits. You can't drive those few blocks without seeing a dozen people camped out on the medians or under the bridge asking for money. And why not? Start your shift by getting drinks and snacks from QT, spend a couple of hours collecting cash from stopped cars, then head a few blocks northeast to score your drugs and booze. Then sleep it all off in lovely Watts Mill Park, courtesy of the KC taxpayers. There's even a handy bridge for cover on those rainy or overly sunny days! If the police do bother to come it's just a few feet to safety in a different state.

I'm not saying QuikTrip is the problem. They actually do a decent job of keeping the soliciting on their property to a minimum now. But to claim this is some new issue, especially one caused by the COVID pandemic, is a pretty sleazy way to shirk responsibility for something which has been known for quite some time.
