LOANS BREAK DOWN BY RACE AND ETHNICITY. THE COFFEE SHOP WAS MAINLY TO INFLUENCE TRAFFIC, GET PEOPLE HERE WHO WOULDN'T EVER COME TO ROOST OTHERWISE. MATT: AT THE EQUAL MINDED CAFE, OWNER DONTAVIOUS YOUNG CONSIDERED A LOAN FROM THE PAYCHECK PROTECTION PROGRAM. BUT HE DIDN'T TAKE THE MONEY.
This might have been a valuable bit of reporting if the "journalist" has actually researched the facts and presented them objectively.
ReplyDeleteBut it was just another identity politics/percentages story that tried to follow the current breathless trend of BLM/victimization/racism that the media is so mesmerized by.
First, how many businesses are there owned by each group designated in the metro?
Most importantly, how many businesses actually APPLIED for loans v how many received them? You can't get any money unless you applied.
Finally, the map shown as part of the story showed that there were fewer loans on the east side of KCMO. But that part of town has thousands of abandoned buildings, both residential and commercial, so empty buildings are unlikely to apply for and receive funds.
Finally, the "reporter" threw in a mention of 1950s redlining, even though of course, that has nothing to do with the story.
Missed opportunity by pushing the current trendy narrative instead of reporting the facts.
Sad.
And predictable.
I agree excepting the predictable part - there's no material to make Byron jokes.
ReplyDeleteSo whose fault is that? All of those firms had the same opportunity to get their free money for their business. If they couldn't be bothered to apply they shouldn't be whining. it was very easy to get and plenty of banks and organizations were helping businesses do the paperwork.
ReplyDeleteAbout how many latino businesses in kc? About 10000. How many are registered and have good tax ids? About 50.
