KANSAS CITY JULY 4TH 'FREEDOM RALLY' NEXTGEN ACTIVIST PROTEST DENOUNCES 'RACIST' CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM!!!
Here's a preview of a social justice gathering that might garner a bigger crowd than locals expect given the dearth of other local July 4th activists.
To wit . . .
ONCE AGAIN KANSAS CITY NEXTGEN ACTIVISTS PLAN TO MARCH ON THE PLAZA TO PROTEST RACISM!!!
We notice that the gathering has gained momentum and interest over the past few days following violent protests inspiring a rapid name change of entertainment district landmarks.
In a recent social media post, organizers tout a broad coalition of support for the gathering including but not limited to these groups:
KC Community Bail Fund Project
One Struggle KC
Black Kansas City Family
And more . . .
About the rally . . .
"This 4th of July, rather than celebrating our nation's "freedom", we will be protesting its unjust and racist criminal justice (punishment) system at Mill Creek Park by THE PLAZA.
"In partnership with One Struggle KC BLACKRAINBOW Black Kansas City Family
"Over 2.3 million Americans are locked up, more than any other nation. And on any given day, nearly half a million individuals who are presumed innocent sit in jails, simply because they cannot afford bail.
"Fueled by the “war on drugs” and “tough on crime” mandatory sentencing policies, mass incarceration has a clear racial impact: 70 percent of American prisoners are non-white. The average American has a 1 in 20 chance of being imprisoned at some point in his life, but that rate is much higher for Latino men (1 in 6) and African American men (more than 1 in 3) than for white men (1 in 23). Strikingly, 1 in 9 black men under age 25 lives under some form of restrained liberty: in prison, in jail, on probation, or on parole. (stats from EJI)
"IN MISSOURI, a report from the Attorney General's Office shows Black drivers were about 95% more likely to be stopped by police than white drivers.
"THIS IS WHY WE PROTEST
Join us this 4th of July at 7pm.
Bring water, face masks, and sparklers.
We will have ONSITE VOTER REGISTRATION!"
