Housing attorney: Evictions in KC metro will happen in waves

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Hundreds of thousands of people, including more than 40% of Missouri renters, could lose their homes this summer in what is being called an eviction crisis. The national hold on evictions ended last week and extra unemployment benefits end this week, leaving people at risk for losing their home.

    1. And freshman sociology is heard from again.

It's very simple. You enter into a financial agreement and you honor it. What's so difficult to understand about that, little Maoist?

    2. Us “right wing assholes” actually own our homes because we planned on it rather than being a renter for our entire lives
And those that do rent, have saved their money in just this exact situation
The only people that bitch about their condition in life, are the ones that never try to change it

  3. Kick their non paying ass’s out, if you want to blame somebody for this blame bald man bad, he allowed the city to be shutdown for covid and the riots so if you lost your job and can’t pay rent that’s on you, people that want to stay where they are find ways to do it, not depend on the gubmint to pay for everything they have.

  6. My lazy ass tenants always pay. One phone call to the PO-leece about their illegal drug use (thank Gaw-a-duh marijuana is still illegal in Missouri) and they are out on the streets and they know it. Look it up. Illegal activity, especially illegal drug use, is grounds for immediate, emergency eviction in Missouri. No waiting. If landlords are so bad, why do so many people rent? We provide a need - one in which the tenant has so many advantages in terms of the law over their landlord, yet they bitch and complain. Do I charge them when I have to spray their apartments for roaches due to their slovenly living conditions? Nope. Do I charge them when I have to pick up bags and bags of trash around the property? Nope. They'll pay. I have learned that charging more rent keeps most of the riff raff out. I also pass on all Kansas City landlord fees to the tenants. Renters in KC should know that Kansas City government is collecting a healthy sum on their backs too.

  11. Why would I care about social unrest? I own rental properties. It's how I make my living. Am *I* supposed to not get paid? I see how you think. Only minorities shouldn't have to pay living expenses like rent. Perhaps you think illegal immigrants shouldn't have to pay either, or get free health care? Suddenly, I'm on the hook for supporting a family of illegal immigrants. Do you pay taxes, Byron? Do you look at your paycheck to see how much is being withheld? Do you know where that money goes? It certainly doesn't go teachers, streets, or infrastructure. It goes to black holes like the Jazz district and some arts council that puts on million-dollar concerts for city employees. Remember that debacle? City employees got to enjoy Janelle Monae at taxpayer expense. So keep in mind if I don't get rent, I can't subsidize minorities, illegal aliens, and arts projects for city employees and the Jazz district.

  12. I used to work with the Civil Service deputies of Jackson County. They had some weird and funny stories to tell about evictions. When they show up at your home or apartment, you will be leaving before the sun sets.

  14. I am happy to inform all of the people living their Suburban Lifestyle Dream that you will no longer be bothered or financially hurt by having low income housing built in your neighborhood. Your housing prices will go up based on the market, and crime will go down. I have rescinded the Obama-Biden AFFH Rule. Enjoy!

I think the moratorium on evictions was intended to help renters have a little more breathing room in paying their rent. Unfortunately, some unscrupulous renters hid behind this temporary law, and didn't pay anything. They squandered their rent money, and now what are the landlords gonna do? Just evict the non-paying tenants and write off the lack of rental income for the past months?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Doesnt it take months to evict someone with the current Missouri legal system?

    ReplyDelete
  17. @12:25, as far as I am aware of yes. Experiences the commentors above have are why I will not rent, period. I had family members clamoring all over me about converting my house to section 8 when I moved, guaranteed money, easy money, blah blah. I told them to shut the hell up, I still lived within the neighborhood and wouldn't invite that garbage into my life for anything. I had even rented to one of them for a while and that was a huge pain in the ass.

  18. But, but, but yo honor. I done spent that extra $600 a week on drugs and alcohol an whores! It wasn't my fault. It's Trumps fault! You know Yo honor Black Lives Matter now! You can't evict me!

  23. 236 is right: landlords should pretend to be nice and flexible and work with renters.

commercial property landlords are smart enough to know that.
